Big chocolate roast malt paired with lush black cherry and soft acidity. We kettle-sour a portion of the mash to lend a slight tartness on the finish. Listen to the Lunatic.

Super deep, dark brown coloured body with a very oily glow and a thinnish, single to at most two centimetre tall tan head that fades quickly and leaves just about nothing on top after just a few seconds. Aroma of super deep and noticeable, herbal lavendar flowers up front with a lot of molasses, vanilla, cream, milk and light funkiness in the nose with some malts and sugars, but that's about it - fairly mild in the nose, for sure. Medium to Full-bodied; Very rich and pungent malt notes dominate with bunches of vanilla, cream, lactose, milk and a bit of sourness with a funky yeast quality, but the malts are definitely stronger here, as is the alcohol, the rich flavours and some oaty and caramel flavours towards the end - very pungent throughout and still showing a bit of the funkiness from the yeast at the very end. Aftertaste shows incredible complexity, pungency, richness and odd, non-consistent flavours that seemingly work well together, especially when the people who drink this seem to have a clue of what they'e got. Overall, this is a nice, pungent, potent, super complex, ultra funky and seemingly outside-the-lines beer that doesn't neatly fit into a single style and Imperial Stout it really isn't in as well. This beer has a great complexity with a rich, sweet and pungent finish especially that works well if you are looking for something different, but still strong. I sampled this sixteen ounce, pint-sized can, purchased from Merchant's [fine wine] in Dearborn, Michigan in late 2016 for US4,49 sampled at my house here in Washington nearly six years later, on 17-July-2022.

Midtown tasting. Dark nrown pour, just a little foam on the top. Nose has cocoa, bit of toffee, blackberries and light wheaty feel to it. Tastes fruity, tart but with some cocoa and chocolaty coffee feel to it as well. Weird and unusual, dry hoppy finish there. Fruity blackcurrant jam linger in the finish, but oily and rather bitter. Oh, alcohol is super well hidden, drinks much easier than it should.

Reviewed from notes.
This was poured into a tulip.
The appearance was semi-dark brown almost black in color with a finger’s worth of white foamy to fizzy head that quickly dissipated. Lace is barely there.
The aroma had a nice blend of black cherries to a dark chocolate malt. A light sour grape skin trickles out underneath and some signs of grassy hops lay underneath with a settling Belgian yeastiness.
The flavor brings about a nice sweet to sour to tart to semi-bitter tastes flowing into each other with a light Belgian yeasty/breadiness strolling in underneath. Blends right on into the aftertaste and slides into the finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fair sessionable to sipping contour over my tongue. Good carbonation. ABV felt appropriate.
Overall, nicely done Belgian dark ale worthy of having again if I could get it.

16 oz can thanks to Willrunforbeer. Dark brown color, fast dying head. Aroma starts with a good amount of roasty hints, mild Berry type hint and light smoke.

Flavor is an odd mix of smoke, with a sour grain base. Lacto bacteria type notes. Yeah, I guess the 90 plus degree fermentation really did some off the wall stuff to this brew. Personally I really don’t enjoy this brewery yeast strain. Just my taste, hard for me to enjoy this. I got to go against the grain here... Just not good at all.

Tallboy can shared at a tasting. Pours a clear dark brown with a thin fizzy tan head. Good head retention. Aroma of chocolate, butter, roasted malts, mild dark fruits. The taste is nuts, chocolate, cocoa, mild citrus and dark fruits. Thin-medium bodied, the name is a bit misleading as we were expecting tartness.

16 oz can. Pours black with a tan head. Tart chocolatey, molasses aroma. Flavor has that tart leading edge, cocoa and raisin. It’s pretty tasty, though pushing up the tartness would make it really interesting. But nothing to complain about here!

16 ounce can into tulip glass, canned on 10/27/2017. Pours fairly hazy/cloudy nearly opaque dark brown color with a 1-2 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big lighty tart red/black cherry, raspberry, raisin, plum, red/green apple, red grape, pepper, clove, hay, straw, grass, dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, and toasted dark bread; with lighter notes of nuttiness, musty funk, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/spicy/light funky yeast and roast/bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big lighty tart red/black cherry, raspberry, raisin, plum, red/green apple, red grape, pepper, clove, hay, straw, grass, dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, and toasted dark bread; with lighter notes of nuttiness, musty funk, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness. Light-moderate peppery yeast spiciness, herbal/roast bitterness, and slight tartness on the finish. Lingering notes of tart red/black cherry, raspberry, raisin, plum, red/green apple, red grape, pepper, clove, hay, straw, grass, dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toasted dark bread, light funk, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/spicy/light funky yeast and roast/bready malt flavors; with a great roasted bitter/sweet and yeast spiciness balance; with zero acrid/astringent flavors after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from hop/roast bitterness, yeast spiciness, and tartness. Medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/bready/grainy, and lightly slick/sticky/chalky/acidic balanced mouthfeel that is great. Minimal warming alcohol for 9.5%. Overall this is an excellent wild imperial stout. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/spicy/light funky yeast and roast/bready malt flavors; very smooth and easy to sip on for the big ABV, with the modestly bitter/spicy and lightly tart finish. This feels like a different beer than the one I had in 2013. I remember more lactic/vinegary notes, but this is just straight up Brett with balanced imperial stout flavors. A very enjoyable offering, no complaints.
