Bottled. Pours brown obviously. Great smoke aroma. Deep maltiness and bacon bits. Bamberg quality rauch here.

Brown with a frothy, off-white head that fades. Big woodsmoke aroma. Underneath: salami, molasses and a touch of cough medicine. Taste is sweet, full of smoke. Prunes, raisins, again very slight cough medicine. A mild, grainy bitterness carries the finish. Big, sticky body. Chewy. Indeed the body is the one thing I prefer to the Schlenkerla Doppel, which otherwise has a slight edge. Tasty!

Bottle. Brown color. Beechwood smoke in the aroma. Smoked cheese. Fat malty roasty sweetish flavor with beechwood smoke and smoked sausage. Nice!

Bottle. Color: Clear copper, stable very light brown head. Aroma: Smoked bacon, hints of caramel. Taste: Medium sweet malty, pretty strong smoky, notes of bacon, wood, sugar, hints of caramel. Over medium body, soft carbonation. Long lasting finish. Nice, pretty smooth but firmly smoked beer.

0.65 l bottle from 'Biermuda', cellared for almost two years. Slow Gusher! Clear, deep ruby with a medium large, frothy, stable, light beige head. Sweetish-malty, quite smoky and a little fruity aroma of caramel, molasses, smoked ham, some sauerkraut and a touch of raisins. Quite sweet, malty, moderately bitter, quite smoky and a bit fruity taste of caramel, molasses, raisins, smoked ham and some sauerkraut, followed by a medium long, quite bitter, resiny, moderately smoky and slightly alcoholic finish. Medium to full body, oily mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Tasty Rauchbock, not as refined as the Schlenkerla ones though.

22 oz bottle. Dark mahogany body that throws up a fluffy, off-white head. The aroma is smoke and toffee malt. The flavor is sweet with light smoke. This needs a deeper more rounded maltiness that is a bit less sweet and with a bit more smoke for my tastes.

Bottle, 7.4%. Hazy amber with medium tan head. Aroma is malt, caramel, toasted, smoke, hop and a little meat. Flavour is malt, caramel, toasted, medium sweet, smoke, little bonfire, little meat, hop and medium bitter.

Bottle: Copper coloured, hazy, firm and stable off-white head; intense sweet malty-smoky nose with a fruity-hoppy background; moderate to solid sweet flavour, a delicate bitterness is barely detectable, full bodied, as expected; slightly lingering sweet-fruity finish with a mild bitterness in the aftertaste. Surely good, but too much on the sweet side...

(bottle, 65cl) Hazy, copper colour with a beige mid-sized foamy head. Sweet malty aroma with notes of smoked ham, also flowery and fruity accents. Sweet and delicately bitter flavour, medium bodied with a soft carbonation. Initially sweet and fruity malty taste with notes of berries, cherries and a present smoky ham character; sweet and fruity finish with moderately smoky notes. Nice one, perhaps a tad too sweet. 28.IV.17

Medium brown with just a thin head. Kind of dullish, ugly brown. Moderate beech smoked with some of those toffeeish malts you associate with this type of bock. The malts aren’t so nice on the palate, though. You still get that toffee note, but the malts are thin...no liquid bread...and the smoke suffers for it, as it doesn’t come across the palate as beautifully as in the best examples of this style.
