Blending the rich, fruit-laden depth of Old Peculiar with the juicy, tropical hop character of Baby-Faced Assassin, this is a beer where heritage meets rebellion. Deep ruby-rown in colour, it opens with layers of dark cherry and treacle toffee, lifted by vibrant notes of mango, apricot and citrus from its American hop influence. Smooth and medium-bodied, it balances velvety roasted malts and caramel sweetness with a lively, resinous hop bitterness. Cask at Nags Head, Shrewsbury. Pours a dark ruby with a small scummy tan head and good lacing. The aroma has a mix of roasted malts, chocolate and toffee. In the mouth it is quite sweet but with underlying bitterness and a juicy texture. Initial flavours are roasted malts, toffee and hints of dried fruit and cherries. Later more tropical flavours come through as well – mango, stone fruits and citrus. Fruitiness lasts into the slightly dry finish. This is quite nice – but tastes like a mix of two beers rather than a straightforward Black IPA.

Cask at Crafty's, Darlington. Gluten Free. Black-brown colour, biege foam head leaving lacing and aroma of citrus, hops, roast hint. Taste is malty, caramel, slight roasty, dried fruit notes, with pine and citrusy hop bitterness. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, drying tangy hoppy bitter finish. Nicely drinkable BIPA.

Cask gravity at Triggers Broom St Peter's. Dark brown beer. Thin beige head a little flat. Bit the malt flavour us god. Some sharpness on tje finish. Bit agricultural.

Handpull cask at the Town Hall Tavern, Manchester. Very translucent mid-brown with a small and quickly dissipating buff-coloured head. Malty aroma with piney and lightly fruity hops. Hints of sarsaparilla. Bitter taste with a nice sweet caramel note just near the start of the sip. Watery body, soft carbonation. Grew on me.

[Cask at The Allied Arms, Reading.] A deep ruby red pour with a thick tan head; fruity malt aroma; smooth in the mouth with some rich chocolate malts and a fresh fruity bitterness. Rather good.
