XPA (Extra Pale Ale) is an American classic. A hoppy session ale . . . relatively light and low in alcohol but packed with flavor. Old World English malts are paired with new American hop varieties, resulting in a superbly drinkable yet complex brew, ideal for evenings out at the pub or when entertaining at home. This beer has it all – enough hops to satisfy the most serious hophead, but enough malt to achieve a perfect balance. This American Pale Ale is unfiltered and unpasteurized.

It pours golden leaving a hazy body and a one inch white foamy head in my nonic. The head dies to a centimeter and beautiful spiderweb foamy lacing clings to the sides of the glass. It looks like there are hops floating around inside the beer and light carbonation is seen bouncing off trying to get to the surface. The smell is predominantly hops with a slight malt background more so as the beer warms. The taste is predominantly bitter. It seems like malts try to kick in, but actually stay mostly subdued for the most part. The palate is about a medium with a moderate amount of harshness on the tongue. It leaves a dry and bitter aftertaste and finish. Overall, this is an average APA that I might come back to.

A lightly hazed golden amber ale with a thin lacing white head. In aroma, nice peppery hops, light cookie malts, lightly herbal and grassy. In mouth, a light smooth pale ale with light hopping, a bit of oileyness. On tap at Redlight Redlight, Jan. 6 2011.

12 oz bottle from beastiefan2k. Pour is a hazy golden yellow, with a nice white head. This is a Pale Ale? Pours like a Saison or a wit, not complaining, just surprised. Aroma of flowers and some sweetness. I also get some biscuit malt in there too. Perhaps a touch of yeastiness also. Flavor is very citrusy, which was a bit of a surprise. I got a real orange citrus start, and a citrus peel finish. The bitter orange peel finish is quite long. In between there was some piney hoppiness as well. Interesting beer. Thinnish palate despite all of the flavors going on. I can’t remember why I put this beer on my want list, but I am glad I did. Thanks Eugene!

Bottle. (RBNAG 07) A bit unclear, golden body with white head. Weak, but pleasant aroma with hops and some supporting sweetness. Nice, fruity, bitter flavor finishing piney, fruity and bitter. Medium to full body. A nice, hop-dominated session beer. I like it. (071103)

355ml bottle @ RBNAG’07. Hazy orange/yellow body with a dense white head. Aroma is bitter and a bit acidulous. Flavor is moderate malty, moderate bitter, some fruit and all over quite ordinary. Body also feels a bit watery, and a short finish. Maybe to many really great beers make this more average than deserved. Want to re-rate.

Poured a near transparent straw gold with a foamy crisp white head that settled into clumps. Smelled very floral with touches of orange and banana lurking in the background. Flavor was fairly weak, straw like malts, slight yeast, mild lemon peel and biscuit. Finish is very watery. I don’t know what makes this an APA, but I expected more of everything. More malt, more hops, more something. Drinkable yes, session beer maybe, but whether I’m having 1 pint or 15, I’d reach for something else.
