CBJ tasting. Thanks to Leighton for the 2012 bottle. Clear deep amber brown beer, no real head. Light and semi dry palate, papery malts, a little caramel. Eucalyptus aromatics in stark contrast. Touch of wood. Light semi dry finish. Different.

Vintage 2012. Moderate sweetness, nice well toasted malts, earth, dried berries, a little leather. Limited oxidation. A little toasted toffee and caramel vibe. Solid overall.

Bottle shared at the craft beer junction bermondsey tasting. Many thanks. A clear nut brown coloured pour with a halo of greyish head. Aroma is semi sweet, cola cubes, dusty, brown sugars, aged. Flavour is composed of semi sweet, nutty malts, toasted malts, dried fruits, cola cubes, mellow aged, some, chalk. Palate is semi sweet, rounded, mellow carbonation.

Extremely dark mahogany brown topped with a khaki cap that thins to the edge.
Nose is dark malts, brown bread, toffee, dried fruit rinds.
Taste comprises dates, cocoa powder, fruit esters, oxidisation setting in.
Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, drying close.
Passable ... unsurprisingly a bit bollocksed.

22 oz. bottle from Hampton Falls Village Market. Damn near black in color with a whisper of head. Nose is light notes of roasted grain and coffee. Flavor is hints of coffee, lager yeast, molasses and very weak subtle wood flavors. Mouthfeel is nice and creamy without any notes of alcohol tones. A slight herbal notes. Really easy to drink and pretty well crafted. If you have a bottled in the cellar, you may want to drink now, something is telling me it’s starting to fall off.

Aroma: The nose is mostly smokey, musty, and roasted malts, with some caramel and fruity notes
Appearance: It pours a dark ruby red-brownish color and it has a lasting, thin sheet of beige head atop it
Flavor: It tastes lightly sweet, it has some roasted and lightly smokey malts, with fairly minimal bitterness
Palate: The body of this beer is medium, it has a decent feel, average carbonation, and a lightly dry finish
Overall Impression: Overall, this is a pretty decent one, and the malty flavors work nicely here. It is a very solid beer, (sorry Kramerica, I know you would have preferred if I hated it, since its Heavy Seas), but I found it to be a rather solid offering.

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, no bottle dating(2012 bottling). Pours crystal clear very dark reddish brown color with a nice 1-2 finger fairly dense khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Minimal spotty lacing clings to the glass. Aromas of big caramel, toffee, molasses, raisin, prune, biscuit, toast, nuttiness, oak, herbal, earth, and light pepper. Very nice aromas with good strength, balance, and complexity. Taste of big caramel, toffee, toast, molasses, biscuit, nuttiness, prune, oak, herbal, earth, and light clove. Lingering notes of caramel, toffee, molasses, toast, biscuit, prune, oak, nuttiness, clove, and herbal on the finish for a good bit. Great flavor balance and complexity; with no cloying sweetness at all. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a very nice creamy and fairly slick mouthfeel. Alcohol is very well hidden with almost no warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a highly excellent doppelbock! Great flavor complexity and balance and extremely smooth to sip on for such a big beer. Definitely one of the best doppelbocks I have had.

bottle - Pours dark brown with a small head. It has a sweet caramel malt aroma. The flavor is very sweet with lots of caramel. There’s a slight hint of wood but it’s pretty overwhelmed by the sweetness. Still good. Could be better.
