On tap at Silver Gulch - Anchorage Airport, pours a cloudy dark amber brown with a small beige head. Aroma brings out toasted malt, light earthiness, and some dusty cocoa. Flavour is smooth but has some tartness to it (infection?), with light cocoa and toasted malt. The tartness isn't intense, but there's no way it should be there. Infected, substandard porter.

Deep dark brown coloured body with no head at all - there isn't even the slightest bit of movement here and no bubbles - perhaps the seal wasn't so great or degraded over the past 12 years!?! Aroma of roasted malt, molasses, earth, light nuts, a dash of grapes and some plums, but the malts seem strongest here in the nose. Light to Medium-bodied; Pretty thin body with the roasted malts and earthiness front and centre, but not showing too much, with a lot of caramelised sugars and grapey, pitted fruit sweetness right behind that brings out a slight tart and juicy kick at the tail end, all while being very easy-drinking throughout. Aftertaste shows only the lighter nuttier and rustic malts without much body, but with some flavours and the softer sugars from the grapes, raisins and prunes without much else. Overall, it seems that this is a slightly maltier and roastier brown ale, but with the age of this (although I did fly back home with this and the seal/contents have been okay of course) it's definitely possible that this hasn't held up over time - Imagine that!?!? Not a great beer, but I've kept it special for a while and always have a special place in my heart for any Alaskan beer! I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from La Bodega in Anchorage, Alaska on 23-June-2011 sampled at my house here in Washington on 30-January-2023, yes 11 and a half YEARS later!

Grumbler purchase from Breeze-IN, Juneau AK.
This was poured into an English pint glass.
The appearance was a nice hazy dark brown color with a one and a half finger white foamy head that dissipated within about thirty seconds. Light lacing stuck and then slid adequately around the glass.
The smell had a nice roasty to sweet blend of chocolate malts and coffee beans.
The taste copied the smell for the most part. There’s a light sticky sweet roasty coffee aftertaste leading into a dry sweet finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fairly decent sessionability about it. The carbonation was somewhat subdued but mostly good, nice rolling smoothness overlays itself on my tongue.
Overall, I say this was a pretty good American Porter that I would have again.

Amber, aroma is nutty light coffee. Sweet front but the body does get lighter and drier. Decent cocoa and nutty malt complexity.
