Deep dark brown coloured body with a ridiculously rich three centimetre brown head. Aroma of alcohol, pit fruits, coffee, prunes, oatmeal and a bunch of nuts - nice and strong. Medium to Full-bodied; Very rich roasted malt flavour with a lot of coffee and nuts noticeable, some anise and licorice tastes and a good nutty sweetness on the end. Aftertaste shows hints of vanilla, oak, oatmeal, prunes, caramel and even a bit of fennel seed. Overall, a very nice pungent stout (this doesn’t seem much of a porter to me, unless it’s a Baltic, but even then) with a large profile and even nicer palate. Great to sample and well worth finding if possible! I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Merchant’s in Dearborn, Michigan on 02-August-2013 for US$1.99 sampled at home in Washington on 28-February-2014.

tap - Pours near black with a small tan head. It has a roasted chocolate malt aroma. There’s a deep roasted flavor with pleasant coffee character. A mildly bitter, roasted flavor lingers in the finish of this medium to full bodied brew. Very good.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, no bottle dating. Pours fairly pitch black color with a 1 finger dense tan head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of milk chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, caramel, toast, coffee, floral, light pine, biscuit, light smoke, and roasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good balance and complexity of roasted notes with a fair amount of hop presence. Taste of milk chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, caramel, toast, coffee, biscuit, floral, light pine, light smoke, and roasted earthiness. Light floral bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of milk chocolate, roasted malt, cocoa, caramel, toast, biscuit, light coffee, floral, and roasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice balance and complexity of roasted/dark malt flavors; with light-moderate hop presence and no cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very creamy, lightly slick, and lightly chalky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a very nice robust porter. Good balance and complexity of flavors; and very smooth to drink. A very enjoyable offering.

12oz bottle pours an opaque black with some creamy, beige head. Nose is malty, dark chocolate, burnt toast, licorice, burnt caramel, toast grains, brown rice. Flavor is sweet, malty, very grainy, burnt toast, caramel, oats, a little rice milk, toasted almonds, lots of grain. Dry, roasty finish. Very nice.

Draft. Very nice balance of porter and stout attributes-- coffee, chocolate, roasted hop/bitterness. Fresh and flavorful on the palate. Enjoyed with a burger and fries.

Draft at HopCat, Grand Rapids. Opaque chocolate-brown body, thin, dusty buff head. Slick cocoa nose. Complex body with cocoa, toasted sugars, and milk chocolate sweetness, finishing with woody roast and light acidity. Rich, soft body. Very good porter.
