Caramel malts, some herbal hops, light citrus, floral, as well. Flavor has a much stronger hop bitterness than the aroma leads on, but the flavor is still dominated by the caramel malts. Still, some floral and herbal notes along with mild citrus tones. Very enjoyable, if a bit sweet overall.

Location: Having lived in VA/MD/DC region for a long time I use to drink this one pretty regularly, and I didn't realize it had been retired, which explains why I haven't seen it in a while....

Overall Impression: Looking back on an old rating I had no comments but the score, so I'll just score it for now. Too bad, because I do remember thinking this was an enjoyable brew.

Doughy, buttery, wheat, and pineapple nose. Dark copper pour with a medium yellow head. Quite complex flavor pine needles, orange, caramel, and walnuts. Marigold finish. Much better than I remember from before rating. The quality has either improved or I’ve developed a much more appreciative palate.

My last rate was from a bad bottle, so it’s gone entirely. Sampled on draft at the 2nd annual Virginia Beer Festival at Capital Ale House Midlothian. Pours a clear copper coolor with a huge head. Good head retention and lacing. Big resiny hop aroma with fine citrus notes. Very bitter hop taste with resin, citrus and caramel malts. Medium-full bodied.

Bottle. Sweet grapefruit and pine hops aroma. Hazy amber with large head. Caramel malt flavor initially with a metallic pine hops finish. Very hoppy APA - metallic taste is the only negative.

Cloudy amber color; big frothy head. Hoppy aroma, a bit grassy and earthy, nice. Medium body structure, some good grainy malt flavor, with a good hopping, bringing some nice hop oils. Very good.

Draught at the Old Dominion pub in Dulles Intl Airport, Washington DC, 2007-10-07, 6-4-7-5-15=37
Hazy amber color. Some malt and hop aroma. Good body strength, very good caramel and toffee flavor, with a quality and powerful hopping; the hop is resiny and partially fruity, it leads to a very strong and long final. Very good Pale Ale.

(Bottle 35,5 cl) Courtesy of Ungstrup. Amber golden with tiny, floating impurities and a huge, rough, shaving foam style, lacing head. Lightly sweet caramel aroma with some fat citrus hops. Medium body with sweet caramel flavour and a distinct, hoppy finish. 171107

Sweet candy aroma with hints of floral hops in the background. Cloudy brownish iced tea appearance. Surprisingly less hoppy than I expected on the palate. Tho there is this mild grapefruit peel effect that is tempered by a chocolate feel that is indescribable. OK, now the bitter hop bite is beginning to manifest itself on the palate. Also has an artificial plastic taste about it. Good decent carbonation that is welcomed. The hop bitter bite keeps building near the end of the session and it ends with a finish that is a lingering bitter medicinal feel that hangs around for a while.

12 oz bottle from Secret Santa. Pour is a slightly hazy orange-red-yellow with a nice off white head. Aroma is cascade hops right away, and not much else. The taste reveals a bunch more, the hops start rather bitter and mellow quickly into a nice malt backbone and finish with some orange rind. There is some cocoa or caramel sweetness in there as well. Extremely drinkable, a nice beer. Thanks Santa.

Bottle from Beer_Hawk; Thanks Joey!; Nose of citrusyhops with some caramel; a more balanced nose than most pale ales; slightly hazy amber with a tiny off-white head; dlavor of lemony hop bitterness mixed with caramel in the medium body; the bitterness lasting well into the finish.
