Cask at Rattle n Hum. Pours a nice orange-yellow with soft, pillowy white head. Mild aroma of earthy hops and some malts. Hops have mellowed a bit in the flavor, giving this beer an almost Pale Ale character. Medium body with light carbonation. Finishes with just touches of fruity bitterness and caramel malts. Pretty smooth and tasty.

Bottled on 6-6-09. Hazy amber body with a quickly diminishing off-white head. Light floral aroma with some citrus notes. The flavors are much more pronounced than the aroma. It starts moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes light to moderately sweet and moderately bitter. Tastes predominately of grapefruit juice mixed with orange juice with some alcohol pepperiness on top. Medium body, velvety texture and lively carbonation. Too sweet for an IPA, but a pleasant drinker.

Bottle from Acknud just arrived. Came cool enough to drink! Slightly hazy amber gold color with a multifinger off-white head (Sam Adams glass). Lots of floral and citric aroma. Medium body with mild carbonation. Flavor is light stone fruit, followed by a little citrus, followed by some malt. Finish is mostly dry, and remains fruity. Bottle dated 04/22/2008. If you’re holding, don’t worry, cause it’s holding well. It’s one of those floral beers that makes me think ESB. Hoppy ESB. I was just thinking that it’s my kind of light beer, and then I noticed the 8%! No wonder it’s my kind of light beer. And it drinks like 5%. Could be deadly in the wrong hands.

This beer pours a mostly clear orange-amber color with a medium fluffy ivory white head that recedes steadily. Patches of lacing on the glass. Grapefruity hops in the nose with a touch of sweet malt. Medium body with a moderately bitter hops character. Features more grapefruit and a bit of caramel malt flavor. The finish is hoppy with a lingering citrusy aftertaste. Overall this is a pretty good straightforward IPA.

Sample at Schlafly Bottleworks. We’re just suckers for the hoppy stuff, ain’t we? Bracing grapefruit and pine smell. This sample was actually from a bottle, and a thick pour it is. Big load of PNW hops. Grapefruit and pine taste supplementment by earth and lemon, plus some ale fruitiness. Despite this description, not an IBU bomb, but a great balance with some fine crystal malts.

12 oz. bottle from Lukas in KCMO. Pour is slightly cloudy orange with a nice, fluffy, white head. Aroma is grapefruit hop and sweetness. The taste is more malt than hop at first with a very dry sweetness. Hop takes over nicely in the middle with grapefruit citrus and a bit more tangy sweetness. Very nice finish. A great beer from Schlafly.

Pour is a orange with a creamy white head. Aroma is a very creamy malt with lots of citrus hops and some mustyness. Flavor is citrus hops with some smokyness and oak. Probalby one of the most malty and earthy IIPA’s out there. Amp up the hoppyness a touch and you got yourself a winner.
