Five hops and four malts make Hoptober Golden Ale a veritable cornucopia of the earth. Pale and wheat malt are mashed with rye and oats to create a medium-bodied ale with a creamy mouthfeel. Centennial, Cascade, Sterling, Willamette, and Glacier hops form a bonfire of citrus notes, fruity cheers and a bold finale.

Why is this 6% - too strong for a hoppy golden ale. Hazy pale tan. The aroma is earthy, musty and slightly cheesy old hops. Slightly fruity with a vague malt character and an emphasis on stale hops. Like they cleaned out last year’s hop leftovers on this brew.

Nice clear golden coloured body with a dense white head of a few centimetres. Aroma of fresh bright citrus and grassy hops with a good lighter malt backbone and some fresh herbal notes. Light to Medium-bodied; Pungent fresh hop notes dominate the flavour with grassy, herbal, piney and some citrus hop characteristics really showing through. Aftertaste is more dry and light than I expected, but the hops still dominate and show very well. Overall, a nice beer - especially considering the style, definitely worth trying. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Whole Foods in Arlington (Clarendon), Virginia on 09-September-2011 for US$3.99 sampled at home in Washington on 01-October-2011.

22oz bottle. Poured a clear, light golden color with a foamy, large white head. Aroma was heavy citrus notes, biscuit malts, sweetness. Hoppy, pretty darn hoppy. Reminds me a lot of Fat Tire, but hoppier.

Whole Foods- P St, DC 650ml ($5): Pours a golden color with a quickly dissipating white head. Aroma is of cascade hops for the most part. Taste is somewhat bitter, with a little bit of bitterness continuing on into the aftertaste. Malt and hops are pretty well-balanced. This is basically pretty similar to most APAs out there. Drinkable, sessionable, but not quite unique.

Clear medium yellow with a tall white head. Spicy honey and lemon aroma. The flavor is sweet on the front with nice hop dryness in the finish. A well balanced easy drinking Golden Ale,.

Draft in shaker, $4.50 @ Brixie’s. The name is a bit of a misnomer to me. Led me to expect something with an Oktoberfest heritage, but not this one. In my glass, it looks like any other pale yellow beer, with a thin head, and a nondescript smell that carries only a suggestion of hops. Taste starts to bring in that western flair for hops, but against much lighter grains than a pale ale. Very spicy like Noble hops, which I now see are not part of the mix, but I did pick out the Centennial and Cascade. This beer throws in a lot of curves and surprises. I have not enjoyed many beers under the "Blond ale" banner, but this is one I do like.
