Five hops and four malts make Hoptober Golden Ale a veritable cornucopia of the earth. Pale and wheat malt are mashed with rye and oats to create a medium-bodied ale with a creamy mouthfeel. Centennial, Cascade, Sterling, Willamette, and Glacier hops form a bonfire of citrus notes, fruity cheers and a bold finale.

Picked this up from Jewel, enjoyed on a Friday night watching my new kitten and older cat go crazy after each other. Aroma kind of peachy, hints of lemon and malt. I made a Karanara Pale Ale (homebrewed, that is) that smells and tastes very similar, not sure if they used that hop variety in this beer. Appearance is a clear golden with a very thin head. Taste very similar to the aroma, definite peach flavors along with a hint of lemon. Unique and not bad for a beer that can be purchased at a major grocery store.

On tap at Brewforia, Meridian ID. Crystal clear bright golden yellow with a big white head that sticks around leaving lost of sturdy lacing. Very pale and light malt character with a little more hop flavor than I expected for the style. A biscuity cereal like flavor as well. Similar to Fat Tire. Light drinking and pleasent.

Mostly clear golden pour - thick, creamy lace - earthy, floral hop aroma, with some spicy notes of rye, a bit of pepper, the slightest tang of wheat - medium bodied, with a creamy mouthfeel - a bit of bready malt, some wheat malt textures, light rye - the flavor of the hops is fairly strong, but the bitterness is moderate - lingering peppery finish, with rye being the most present at this stage - pretty tasty, but probably better as a summer seasonal.

12oz bottle from Brewforia
Appearance: Clear golden with a nice frothy white head and lots of lacing
Aroma: Bisquity & citrus
Taste: Malts, bready, citrus with some lemon bitterness in the finish
This is a nice clean, crisp and refreshing beer. But, with a name like Hoptober, I expected it to have more hop characteristics.

12 oz bottle from Country Club. Nose is full of flowery and lightly piney hops, light golden raisins, and a hint of bubblegum. Clear yellow with a medium pale yellow head. Flavor is lightly sweet fruitiness, white pepperiness, and a slight bitterness.

The weak link in the New Belgium chain. Not much separates this from a boring, mainstream lager. Some caramel toast and spruce, but not much. Rated 11/2/09

Sample at Kite’s Grille in Kansas City. The beer is a golden-yellow color with a medium thin and fizzy white head that dissipates steadily. Thin rings of lacing on the glass. Floral hops aroma with notes of malt and citrus. Light, effervescent body with flavors of floral hops, citrus and bready hops. The finish is mildly hoppy with a lightly bitter aftertaste. One of the better Blond Ales I have tried in recent memory.

Bottle. Pale gold body. Short, frothy white head, mostly diminishing. The aroma is malty with notes of grain, but more so hoppy with notes of resin. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly sweet and moderately bitter. Light to medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Lots of hops in the taste of this beer yet the grain is also upfront. Prickly mouthfeel. Just OK.

Shaker pint draft at Barleys in Overland Park, Kansas. Pour is a clear lighter golden with a smallish white white. Head falls with glass coating lacing. Aroma of citrus hope, bright and clear. There is also a nice straw grassiness behind the fruit, and in the back of the nose a nice spicy yeastiness. Taste is grainy malt, earthy and straw notes, with the fruit citrus hops hitting in mid-palate. The finish has some of the yeast, though not as soft or pronounced as the nose. Finish is clean, dry and mildly bitter. Throughout the beer, the focus was mostly on the citrus hops. Light bodied, easy to drink.
