From the Rare Beer Club. Sampled from a 750 ml corked brown bottle this beer poured a very cloudy brown color with a large creamy brown head that lingered and produced great lacing. The aroma was pineapple, pine, grapefruit and brown sugar. The flavor was bitter and tart with notes of grapefruit, pine, orange, nut, wood, vanilla and oregano. The finish was long, tart and dry with lingering pine. Moderately full bodied. Odd.

Murky brown pour that produces a tall creamy, tan head. Sweet bisquity malt aroma. Starts off sweet then the hop bitterness kicks in to keep this in balance.

750ml bottle pours a translucent, brick red with a creamy, thick off white head. Strong herbal aroma, grapefruit zest, lemon zest, caramel. Flavor is sweet, caramel, almost like a barleywine, lightly puckering. Full bodied, bitter finish. Not at all reminiscent of a Flanders.

Bottle at the Funky 6. Pours dark, amber-brown with a substantial beige head. Aroma hints at sweetness, with notes of dark fruit, raisin, with some yeast, spices and caramel. Sweet flavor, malty with more caramel, cherry, some alcohol. Medium to full in body with lively carbonation. Finishes semi-spicy, warm, with yeasty malts, ripe cherries and plums. Very nice.

750 c&c - but I didn’t note who shipped it. Likely South Bay Drugs. Pours dark ruddy amber with a foamy 4 finger light tan head. Aroma of cooked caramel through the head, hintof sourfrom the bottle. I hope. Med body/frothy carb. It’s not really very sour - just a hint. Basically it’s a very malty thing with some yeast/spice aspect and enough hop to moderate the malt. Imperial Flanders Red? That’s Dissident in my book. This is a good beer, but not exactly what I’d hoped. The rye aspect makes it fairly interesting. I can imagine a Brett aspect, but it’s pretty submerged.

bouteille 75cl.

Sample at the Horror Movie Marathon on 10/23/10. Pours a cloudy reddish-brown color with a medium tan head that recedes steadily. Stringy lacing on the glass. Oaky aroma with notes of malt and bread. Medium body with a slightly funky character and flavors of herbal hops, fruit and sweet malt. The finish is tart and fruity with a lingering spice left behind. Pretty good all around.
