Belgian Spiced Ale. Some Mysteries Should Be Savoured Not Solved. First brewed in 2008 as a spring seasonal, this mystical, medium-bodied, 5% abv, light amber Belgian Spiced Ale features subtle malt and hop profiles that compliment its complex and spicy blend of flavors. Belgian candy sugar, chamomile, grains of paradise, cardamom and phenols (fruit flavors) produced by a special strain of Belgian yeast combine to make this ale a mystery, and a bottle, you’ll never want to get to the bottom of.

Bottle. Too much spice. This probably is not a belgian by RB standards, more like a veggie spice brew. Somebody please, change the style. Strong on the spice end, almost comes across like one of those xmas brews. Somewhat astringent nose. Difficult. Seems to have more alky than stated here. Was expecting a finer real belgian or, at least a friendly wit. Don't look here. But if you like those spiced end of year celebration beers, check this one out, you'll be pleasantly surprized.

Pour is a cloudy yellow with a small white head. Aroma is a some sweet honey with some nutmeg which I guess is the cardamom. Flavor is more of that nutmeg with honey and maybe some ginger. I do not get much of the Belgian aspects of this beer but this had a nice perfume spice to it. A bit thin but I kind like this because of the odd mysterious spices.

Mostly clear dark gold color with a white head and decent retention. Light lacing. Taste is a mottled mix of spices. I taste the cinnamon but it gets lost with other flavors. Meh.It tastes similar to a pumpkin beer without the pumpkin and in this case that’s not a good thing.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a hazy orange-apricot color with an enormous fluffy orange-white head that left decent lacing. The aroma was tart citrus, perfume, chalk, Sweettart candies, chamomile and cardamom. The flavor was tart and very perfumey with notes of chamomile, cardamom and chalk. Long finish of perfume, chamomile and cardamom. Medium body. Odd.

12 ounce bottle. Amber gold color topped by a small white head that disappates almost immediately. Aroma of sweet malt and light citrus with hints of cardamom and cinnamon. Flavor is sweet malt and lots of chamomile. Very fruity and floral. Not much hops or yeast character to speak of. Lacks depth or complexity. Finish is earthy with a light spicy note.

Slightly hazy nice deep copper coloured body with a orange and almost ruby glow wiht a fast-dying, soda-like tan head about a centimetre tall. Aroma of crazy stuff, like cardamom, aniseed, fennelseed, lavender, basil, coriander seed and a bunch of caster sugar and plenty of yeast - pungent smells. Medium-bodied; Assertive effervescence; Strongish spice notes up front that fade after one or two seconds, tops, showing a ton of yeast, a lot of wheat and other lighter malts and a bit of a sweetness from plain caster sugar. Aftertaste is less complex than I assumed from the smell, but a nice different beer, bordering more on this style than anything else. Overall, within this style it’s average as best, but as a biere de garde, I’d give it a much better ’try to find’ review if you really enjoy the style. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Total Wine in McLean, Virginia on 01-August-2012 for US$1.79 sampled at home in Washington on 21-October-2012.

12 ounce bottle from State Line. Pours a clear amber color with a thin white head. Decent head retention. Aroma of huge, big spice, nutmeg, nutty notes, wheat and floral notes. Taste of toasted wheat, cereal notes, citrus and spice. Medium bodied.

Cinnamon, clove, cherry, and malt nose. Clear copper, thin head. Soft mouthfeel. Light allspice flavor, neutral malt. Alcohol not terribly noticeable. Strange but in a good way.
