Our Bourbon Barrel Lake Trout Stout is a smooth velvety twist on our classic stout. We aged our stout in four freshly emptied charred oak bourbon barrels for over four months. Next we carefully blended it with fresh stout to balance the character of the barrel with the boldly familiar flavor of Lake Trout Stout. Unlike our draft LTS, this beer is carbonated to enhance the bourbon barrel experience. This beer’s rich and full-bodied character is complemented by hints of vanilla, oak and bourbon.

Big thanks to HOPSHUNTER for sharing this tasty treat, thanks Jason! Bomber pours deep darkness with nice looking mocha head. The aroma is nice and sweet with malts, chocolate, smooth sweet bourbon, vanilla and some spicy black licorice too. The taste has a good deal of milk chocolate mixing with black licorice spiciness and modest levels of smooth bourbon booze and bits of oak. Smooth and balanced brew. Nice!

Bottle shared by LtDan. Pours with a small tan head and a deep brown body. Aromas are roasty, smokey, light barrel and vanilla. No alcohol character. Flavors of tobacco, roast and vanilla. Really light barrel, a hint of smoke and chocolate. Medium bubbles, quite watery.

22oz bottle. Used a snifter. Pours a black color with ½ inch tan head very full and thick retention. Nose is light oak, vanilla and chocolate hints. Taste is very close to a regular sweet stout. With a very mild oak vanilla whiskey from the Barrel Age I pickup in the front side of the sip. Nothing over the top, that some people maybe expecting. Very subtle. It comes out much more as the beer hits room temperature yet still light. One negative is the body is pretty thin. Short dry finish. Cost $6.99 @ Gary’s Beverage in Portsmouth, NH.

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a nice light brown foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma consists of light vanilla and lactose with notes of roasted malt. Taste is also a nice mix between some lactose heavy roasted malt with light touch of vanilla, bourbon is not a key player for this beer. Body is quite full with creamy body and medium carbonation. Very well brewed and something I would love to have again thought bourbon could have been a bit more pronounced.

22oz bottle pours a watery, opaque black with a creamy, tan head. Aroma of vanilla and brown sugar. Flavor is sweet, nutty, lightly malty. Finish is watery and a little chalky.

Bottle at DC local tasting. Dark brown, thin tan head, medium lacing. Aroma of cocoa. Taste has very subtle chocolate, subtle port wine, thin body. I think this one spent about an hour in the barrel, not much detectable evidence of the barrel aging.

Bottle at the 2010 March Metro Detroit tasting. Poured dark brown with a brown head. Aroma had notes of smoke with an undertone grain and malt. Flavor was smokey as well with dark malts. There was no bourbon on the nose or the tongue.
