This copper colored American IPA took a wild left turn when we fermented it with our favorite Trappist ale yeast. Charged with hops, followed closely by a clove and pepper Belgian yeast character.

On tap at Apex, pours an opaque amber orange with a small white head. Aroma is sharp, with notes of Belgian yeast, earthy notes, and feet - not much in the hop department. Flavour is well-balanced, bringing out Belgian yeast, light candied sugar and floral hops. Decently cohesive, though a bit messy. Decent, but not up to Bear Republic's usual standard.

Pours hazy mahogany into a tulip. Clove, pepper and pit fruit aromas. Sweet yeast and pit fruit upfront turning to mild resin in the medium length finish.

Draft, clear copper in color. Huge Belgian yeast that shows a lot of fruit character. The flavor is balanced between yeast and mild citrus.bitterness. the bitterness is held at bay by the yeast. Very fruity bit I really like the Belgain yeast presance. Pretty interesting and tasty brew not sure I would want more than 6 oz of it.

From gravity cask @ Rattle N' Hum. This one is really cloudy and deep brown - almost muddy looking in the glass and it has a medium sized really bubbly off-white top. It has quite an interesting aroma with something really spicy. In a strange way it actually reminds me a lot of root vegetable like peppery rutabaga. It also has some soft yeasty hints, a good amount of red amber malts in the taste and a nice sweetness that rounds it off. Really different and a really present taste on this crazy Ivan guy, but I quite enjoy it. The cask condition has really transformed this. 13.06.2013

Churchkey 10oz ($5): Pours a brownish color without very much head; no lacing is left afterwards. Caramel, floral hops, Belgian yeast (but not too overt). Beer has a sufficient amount of hops and definitely falls in with the Belgian IPA crowd of beers. The Belgian yeast in the taste is not as strong as other examples of the style (Raging Bitch for instance). In a sense, it veers more to the IPA than the BA. Still though, a very interesting beer, with all the flavors done right, though I should add that this was by far not the best offering from Bear Republic that I have encountered.
