Last year we brewed a great Red Rye I.P.A., but this years edition is even better. The red brown glow is there again, as is the soft mouth feel. Both are the result of the rye malt we used and which combines just great with the other roasted malt varieties. It makes its maltiness slightly more herbal. Great base to add layers of hoppiness too. We opted for Mosaic, Nelson Sauvin and Simcoe. Besides a fresh, hoppy taste, they provide a whole lot of citrus flavours.

Keg at Brewdog shepherds Bush. A clear red amber coloured pour with a lasting off white head sticky head . Aroma is semi sweet, spicy pine needle, nutty malts, sticky hop, woody pine. Flavour is composed of sweet toffee nutty malts, brown bread, woody pine, candied orange rind, hint of banana. Palate is semi sweet, sticky hop, moderate carbonation, little creamy. Ok.

On tap at the brewpub at 5.8%. Clear, dark reddish amber with a medium large, frothy, slowly diminishing, tan head. Sweetish, fruity-resiny, slightly herbal aroma of mango, strawberry jam, some orange, lots of pine and lemongrass. Sweetish-malty, slightly bitter, fruity-resiny and a little herbal taste of caramel, mango, strawberry jam, some orange, lots of pine and lemongrass, followed by a medium long, rather dry-bitter, resiny and slightly herbal finish. Medium to full body, creamy mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Quite intense but well-balanced, very pleasant mouthfeel as well. Very good!

(Draught at Brouwerij ’t IJ, Amsterdam, 27 Feb 2015) Reddish amber colour with frothy, beige head. Malty, fruity nose with orange peel, rye bread and grapefruit. Malty, fruity taste with notes of rye, crisp-bread, citrus, grapefruit and a balanced citric bitterness. Medium body, with a certain sweetness. Tasty, but the rye character gets a bit sharp. Quite nice.

On tap @ ’t IJ. Fairly clear dark red/ruby color. Firm off white head. Aroma’s: citrus and some resin/pine. Retronasal there’s citrus, some pine, rye malt, dark malt/caramel, some fruity sourness. Flavor is light roasted and malty sweet and moderate bitter. Body is medium. Good carbo. Finishes with dark malts and moderate to full bitterness. I just really like rye.
