Bottle. Jacobus Pale Rye. Rye is still used for this beer, but isn't prominent on the label anymore. Color: Bit hazy orange amber, off- white head. Aroma: Hop, malt, spicy hints. Taste: Spicy, herbal notes, over moderate sweet, malty, combined with moderate to over moderate bitter grassy hop. Ok.

Bottle from Albert Heijn. Pours clear dark golden with a lasting, thin, frothy, off-white head. Aroma of pink grapefruit, red apple, biscuit, fried onion, paprika, pepper, olive oil, mango. Taste has sweetish mango, red apple & orange on a biscuity-toffee-like malty base, solid rye body with bitter pepper, spices & touch of yeast. Dry, earthy & peppery hoppy finish, rye & yeast still at work here with a resinous, ripe fruit-like aftertaste. Medium body, oily texture, fizzy carbonation. I'd go to church for this one!

Tap @ Jopenkerk. Amber color. Cloudy. Grapefruit in the firm hoparoma. Initial hops, citrus notes in the flavor. Earthy, grassy and oily. Rye bread restricted to the background. Nice and tasty. However a sample straight from a small wooden cask proved to be a diacetyl bomb. Werthers original and yoghurt next to the earthy hopbitterness. That sample was hardly drinkable. I’ll stick to the rating mentioned abone, because that will be the usually available version.
