Bottle from Biernavigatie. Aroma is smoked malt, big heavy smoke, smoked bacon, ash, campfire, smoked wood, caramel. Flavour is medium sweet and moderate bitter. Body is medium. Probably the best Schlenkerla I’ve had so far, this is a lot fuller than the other beers. Lovely Rauch.

Old rating - Pint at the brewpub, June 2001. Pours deep brown with a beige head. Aromas & tastes of smoked meat, chocolate, caramel, earth, liquorice & roasted malt. Medium body. Sweet mildly bitter finish

Pint bottle. A medium sized dark brown pour with a creamy beige head that has decent retention. The aroma is smoked goodness and conjures memories of well smoked sausages. The taste follows the nose; there is plenty of sweet smoked meats, some ash and some bitter thyme. The palate is full and creamy with soft carbonation. Finishes long and glorious with lingering smoked meats. Overall: Decent--And by that I mean first rate. In my eyes this is the standard against which all other smoked beers are compared to and judged. Paired well with some aged gouda cheese

Tap Bokbierfestival, Amsterdam: I gonna like the style when i visited Bamberg, and now the bock in Amsterdam. Start with the well know smoked smell that this dark brown beer has and than hits you with waves of coffee, chocolate taste.
Tastes like bonfire.
Slightly oxidized, leathery and earthy with hints of ham and smokiness. Feels lighter and less balanced than a fresh bottle.
