This is best described as the bock version of the traditional rauchbier. That’s what it is, a German bock beer with an intense taste of smoke.

Bottle. Pours very dark brown with off white head. Nose and taste of bacon fat, smoked malt, smoked cherry oak, smoked caramel and smoked chocolate malt. Medium body.

Bottle. Pours clear mahogany with a small creamy tan head and food lacing. Aroma is smoky, roasty, caramel. Flavor is quite smoky, plant, light sweet, a bit of astringence, no real bitterness. Nice flavor

Half-litre bottle opened on its BBD (late Apr 2013) and poured (twice) into my Westmalle chalice. You know what you are going to get from these guys, or at least you should. This was everything I expected anyway: smokey and malty, with enough body and alcohol to sit back and enjoy, which I did. Plenty of others have already pontificated long and hard about this fine brew, I agree with most of them (that scored it high and liked it).

16.9 oz bottle. Pours a deep mahogany with a collapsing beige head. Aroma is campfire smoky, bready malt, faint dark fruit. Taste is smoky and a little sweet (cotton candy); finishes a little bitter. Mouthfeel is creamy, body and carbonation medium. Delicious. Give me more!

29/11/2018 From barrel @Schlenkerla (Bamberg). Bruna intensa, limpida, schiuma avorio media, molto persistente. Al naso note di malto, pane al latte, caramello, legno affumicato (scamorza, bacon), fumo. In bocca è ricchissima, rotonda e corposa, maltata dolce all'attacco con affumicato intenso, lungo e persistente, chiusura amara a bilanciare. Corpo medio-pieno, carbonazione medio-leggera. Birra straordinaria, bevuta freschissima dalla botte è un'esperienza che non si dimentica.

Bottle. Clear deep brown liquid with medium off-white/light brown head. Aroma of burning wood, sausage, bready malt, biscuits, dark fruit, wood and light lagerish yeast. Taste is light sweet and light bitter with notes of bread, nuts, dark chocolate, sausage and smoke. Medium bodied with medium carbonation. Very nicely balanced without too much smoke. Awesome!
