An intense brew first enjoyed by the British aristocracy during the Industrial Revolution. Already on the nose, you can feel the drink's thick core of lightly caramelized malts, which is refreshed by the resinous pine buds and the spooky wild rosemary. The tongue literally gets stuck in the maltiness, only to be rescued by the bitterness of the hops, all of which lingers into sticky warmth.

500mL bottle, pours a deep dark mahogany with a large, lingering tan head. Aroma is loaded with pine needles and rosemary upfront, giving way to a rich caramel malt backbone and a hint of brown sugar. Flavour is very herbal, with tons of pine needles upfront, immediately shifting to the rosemary, and then showcasing the deep caramel malt backbone holding this altogether. A herbal barleywine - I would've thought this wouldn't work at all, but somehow, the pine and rosemary work decently. It's not a standout beer for me, but it's pretty solid.

Rødbrun klar med fingerhøyt beige skum. Lukter brent karamell, svisker, alkohol og mørke frukter. Fyldig. Smaker bitter brent karamell, sitrus og pepper. Lang

Pours nearly clear, dark amber. Small white head. Smell is dry, dark fruits. Sweet, some caramel. Taste is full, sharp barleywine with a sweet, sugary ending. Tad bitter. Bit thin for a BW. Medium to medium high carbo. Mild spices in the later taste and aftertaste. Ok.

Bottle @ home. Deep, clear amber to light brown colour with a small to medium sized, creamy beige head. Smells sweet, herbs, the herbs kinda smell hoppy I think, malty, nice. Tastes herbs, thyme, rosemary, sweet, malty. Full body, soft to medium carbo.

0,5 flaske på RBHD-samling, Bjørnøy jan-18: lett uklar rødlig rav med flott skum som varer. Granskudd, rosmarin og andre urter. Mørk karamell i den solide maltkroppen. Kvae og alkohol. I råeste laget for meg.

Shared bottle at RB/HD at Bjørnøy 26.01.18. Clear orange amber. Uneven, but persistent, off-white head and lacing. Perfectly balanced aroma and taste of red berries, dates and fermented fruits. Might have done with some more maturing.

Shared 500 ml bottle, from Vinmonopolet Jørpeland. ABV is 11.4%, Deep brownish red colour, off-white head. Aroma of malts and over-ripe red berries, notes of herbs. Sweet malty flavour, distinct notes of strange herbs, some bittering hops in the finish. Weird, but interesting.
