Clear dark brown colour with thin head. Aroma and flavour are malty and have dried fruits like figs, raisins and dates. Some liquorice too. Not far from a Rochefort 8, but not quite.

2 February 2020. At Brugs Bierfestival. Cheers to Anke & Pieter! Hazy dark brown, lasting, small, foamy, tan head. Aroma of clove, liquorice, aniseed, milk chocolate, biscuit, burnt cake, prune, raisin. Taste has sweet caramel, cake & dried dark fruits (prune especially), bit nutty & herbal with spicy clove & aniseed popping up. Dryish, earthy hoppy finish, toasty but still thoroughly spicy, hint of toffee & very strong liqueur-like alcohol. Medium body, creamy texture, fizzy carbonation. Not bad but still too Belgian, on the verge of falling out of the Stout category even.

Bottle from somewhere I can't remember, found it at the back of the fridge. dark brown black beer with a lasting tan head. Some chocolate some liquorice some coffee, more liquorice later. Some heat on the finish. Quite a light imperial stout. Some star anise. It's fine. Smooth but a bit too much liquorice for me.

Friday 1st Feb 2019; 7th Pre-Brugge Bier Festival International Beer Swap, De Bierboom. This is one of the many bottles that landed on my table for me to try, it is OK to take a decent sized sample (within reason) because there are so many beers to share. Almost black in colour, light beige head. Malty/coffee aroma and taste with some dark fruit and liquorice flavours seeping in mid-sip, finish has a slight bitterness.

Towering cream-tan head over deep cola-coloured beer. Very roasted, liquorice, jap, wood, melanoidins, meatroast, bit of sulphur. Bitter, quite roasted, but with a burning, chilli-like feel. Hot, capsicine, tannins, liquorice. Backthroat sweetness. Feels quite carbonated, sharp, near aggressive. Medium bodied, much lighter than what one would expect for an I. S. I suspect high attenuation due to sugars. Bit weird - or ought I to say typical organic?
