Wallonian stout, bottle at Heeren Van Liedekercke. Thick, moussy, pale greyish beige head lacing in 'streaks' over a black beer with burgundy edges, only visible for a few mm off the edge. Aroma of a lot of fondant chocolate, sourish old coffee grounds, burnt toast, hazelnuts, butterscotch, liquorice candy, cloves, dried plums, raisins, fried banana, nutmeg, coriander seed, gravy. Fruity onset but in a restrained and tasteful way, some dried banana, old raisins and dates with a sourish plum-like hint, sweetish in its core with a dark candi sugary quality to it but nothing cloying; spritzy, minerally carbonation but still very full, smooth, bit viscous mouthfeel. Caramelly and chocolatey malt body with toasty bitterness at the edges, reinforced by a mild dosis of herbal hop bitterness as well as roasted coffee bitter aspects in the end, a tad 'powdery' even and very pleasant, with lingering caramelly sweetishness and a dash of warming, rum-like alcohol. Obviously 'Belgian' in its make-up, but in a clever, tasteful, restrained kind of way, not overly teeming with earthy, phenolic or estery yeast effects as is so often the case in Belgian attempts at a heavy stout; seems inspired by Ellezelloise's Hercule, with which it bears a lot of similarity. Style-wish a Belgian-inspired export stout I'd say, and a damn good one at that, or in any case much better than I had expected seen the average level of quality this brewery tends to offer.

Bottle shared at De Heeren van Liedekercke. Pours cloudy black with a big, frothy, beige head that lasts. The aroma contains roasted malt, coffee, sugar, bread, yeast and ripe fruits. It tastes medium bitter and very light sweet. Thin texture, fizzy carbonation (too much for this style), hides its ABV well, short finish. Tasty dessert beer but falling short for its style.

Sampled @ ZBF 2015. Black, little tanned head. Nose is odd, thick herbal, sweetish herbal coffee,… Taste is sweetish, herbal, dull roast, charred coffee, cough syrup body,… Far too herbal & charred for me. (Thx! for sharing people!)

Hefig malziger Antrunk, geringe Süße. Trocken, dennoch aromatisch, um Ende stört die Trockenheit aber. 11/9/10/9//9
