Bottle. Black as porter should be. Nice head. Roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, hint of herbs, hop bitter. Smooth, full taste. Enjoyable beer. In my opinion this one is better, compared with the Dublin porter.

Bottle: Black, with a tall, thick tan head. Aroma of dark chocolate, light maple smoke. Taste is sweet......molasses, chocolate malt. Steady herbal/grassy bitter. I have a soft spot for Guinness and this one hits it...... Exactly what I like in a porter.

First thing I noticed is that it does have a rather large molasses component, or treacle, as the Brits would call it. A little bit of hoppiness and low carbonation, no doubt to match the lower carbonation level of a cask pour of this beer. Like the Dublin Porter, I could catch a note of the Guinness sourness. This is very much an ancestor of the Guinness Export, definitely stronger than their usual session stout. Again, probably not that close to the way an actual beer from that time would taste, but it does suggest the "rawness" of an older recipe.

50 cl. bottle @ home, bought @ Albert Heijn Culemborg. Clear dark brown with a tan head. The usual roasted malts, caramel, light coffee and chocolate aroma’s. Sweet taste with a mild bitter finish. Solid porter.
