Deep and dark as a cold Winter night… The Frost Monster is lurking. This beast of an ale started out as a pilot batch concept by packaging line veteran Justin Perrone. Thinking of his own monster (dog) “Frost” he wanted to make a beer that had intense flavor, aroma and strength. Working with Brewmaster Scott Vaccaro and Head Brewer Scott Tobin they came up with an imperial stout only befitting its title.

Brewed with a massive amount of malt to give it the rich, roasted and smokey flavors expected of such an ale. Black in color with a head as white as the beast itself. Drink it this Winter or lay some down for Winters to come.

Tasting at Bruce’s pad. Thanks to Mr Smith. Opaque brown beer, small pale tan head. Palate is airy and dry with fine carbonation. Smooth dark malts with a bourbon biscuit streak. Mild dark chocolate. Light bitterness in the airy dry finish. Not bad but wants something else.

Bottle split at Bruce’s Pad, big thanks to the Leightonator, 24/06/14. Extremely dark mahogany brown with moderate tan spotting and edgeing. Nose is big roasty pops, hint of booze, earthy cocoa, dark toffee, mineral notes. Taste comprises rich dark toffee, molasses, dark chocolate, light mineral wash, spice. Medium + body, fine carbonation, light roast and booze in the finale. Ok impy, drinkable but a touch basic for this venerable style.

Bottle shared in London - picked up in NYC. Pours black-brown with a creamy khaki head. Rich chocolate on the nose with nips of alcohol, burnt wood, ripened dark fruits. Medium sweet flavor with slight smoke, strong roast, burnt earth, wood, alcohol, dark cherries, rich bread. Medium to full bodied with fine to average carbonation. Warming finish with lightly bittersweet cocoa, roast, scorched earth, burnt sugars, dark fruits, raisins. Punchy stuff but very nice overall.

Bottle thanks to Leighton. It pours darkest brown with a small tan head. The nose is sweet chocolate, earth, roasty, toast, mild acidity, over-ripe fruits and brown sugar. The taste is rich, roasty, toast, earth, mild acidity, coffee, burnt stuff, pepper and booze with a dry, roasty finish. Medium-full body and fine carbonation. Ok, but substandard for the style.

From the June 2013 3R6P tasting. +++ Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured thick and black with a medium sized creamy brown head that lingered and left good lacing. The aroma was red wine, chocolate and toasty malts. The flavor was red wine, chocolate, cola, toasty malts and anise. Long finish. Thick and creamy body. Interesting.

Bottle from a four pack - not too sure about the abv, but I doubt it’s 15 - it’s pretty boozy, but not 15% boozy - medium thick pour with surprisingly high carbonation for a high alcohol brew - very sweet nose of anise, dark chocolate, prune, raisin, doughy/cookie character, vanilla, black cherry - actually smells prety dang good - medium carbonation, pretty slick mouthfeel - very sweet, but it also has a bright, fruity acidity to it that balances the sweetness but also becomes rather abrasive after a while - gets a bit hot and boozy late - a lot of bittersweet chocolate and dark fruit - decent flavor, but sharp and brutish.
