Draught at Rogue Kitchen & Wetbar (W. Broadway), Vancouver
Black color. Mild aroma of roasted malt and tar. Good body strength, smooth and highly carbonated mouthfeel, strong flavor of roasted malts, touch of liquorice, a bit salty, with quite high malt acidity, and some tar in the finish; the barrels seem quite evident, also providing a boozy feeling.
Very good, a bit edgy.

375 ml bottle thanks to Nisse666, shared on August 17, 2016.Bottled May 1, 2015.Black color, dark brown head. Grainy, fruity, mainly alcohol scent. Malty, sweet, burnt, fruity taste. Burnt, alcohol aftertaste. Tongue and gut warming from alcohol. Spicy lingering tongue feeling. Medium though fizzy mouthfeel, medium high bitterness.Unbalanced, does not compute, not for me, but not a very good beer, all over the place with lots of everthing, but not coming together.

Pitch black with a small lingering mocha head that leaves some sparse lace. Nose is dark fruit, cognac, wood, dark chocolate, coffee, notes of vanilla, licorice, nuts and lighter brandy in the end. Flavour is lightly sweet molasses under a moderate coffee and chocolate bitterness with a touch of tart red fruit. Wood is more apparent in the taste with a number of complex layers integrated quite well and the alcohol just appearing as a warmth in the finish. Mouth is medium+ and creamy with soft carbonation. Excellent. 9/4/8+/4+/17

(375ml bottle from saveur-biere.com) Pours pitch black with a small but lasting pale brown head and lace. Aroma of dark malt, molasses, espresso and cream, light chocolate, anise, brandy and burnt wood. Palate is mid sweet and elegant to start, mix of coffee and cream, brandy, unsweetened chocolate, burnt wood, a bit of anise, toffee. Finish has brandy and dried fruit, earthy nutty notes, ash, a bit of spicy booze. Medium full creamy body with soft carbonation. Smooth and fruity overall thanks to the various brandy-type barrels, not heavily roasted. Highly sippable.

Bottle shared at Craft Beer Co Clerkenwell - London. Many thanks to Paul. Pours oily black-brown with a creamy, brown head. Restrained aroma, with light dark fruits, burnt wood and cocoa. Medium sweet flavor with ashy roast, bittersweet baking cocoa, earthy bitterness. Full bodied, creamy and lightly chewy, with fine carbonation. Lightly warming on the finish, with scorched earth bitterness, more ash, dark chocolate. Nice and rich. Good complexity, and still highly drinkable.
