Cask, handpump The Penny Black, JDW Bicester, Saturday 7th December 2013 Pours gold with a slim white head. Touch of curly bitterness but there is a little butteryness around the edges. Fairly average bitter if truth be told, a little fruity tang, its ok but not a patch on the Celt beer we’ve also got here. A6 A4 T6 P4 Ov12 3.2

Cask at the Catherine Wheel (JDW), Henley. Straw in colour with a thin white head; subdued tropical fruit aroma; thin to start with an indistinct tropical fruit flavour, then developing a thicker, grainy body; the finish is very dry with some lingering fruit. Overall a rather muddy and muddled attempt at translating the west coast IPA style.

Cask at JDW Charlie Hall: golden amber pour with foamy off white head, hint of citrus in the aroma along with some malts, taste is malty with some honey a hint of citrus, embarrassingly average.

Hand-pulled pint in The Four Candles (a Spoons in Oxford) on 22 Nov 13: my first pint of the day (and certainly not my last). Poured an orange/gold with weak but full white head. The nose was slightly citrus with a hop undertone, not a lot going on though. The taste was crisp and sharp, hop lead with a malty middle and finish: couldn’t decide if it was supposed to be so ’un-hoppy’ for a beer with ’Stone’ as the brewer, even if only partly. I enjoyed it OK, but it was a strange brew and very unlike anything I’ve had from Caledonian or Stone before.

Cask @ Linen Hall JDW, Enniskillen [231113]
Golden, clear, thin white head
Aroma - very soft citrus some hay, light pale malts
Taste of soft dull citrus, soft sweet pale malts, dab of lemon and orange, no caley malt taste, just standard hopping found in any generic golden ale
Palate - Light body bit oily. Finish - same flavours but a bit of that Caley malt is detectable now
Overall - This is nothing like what a Stone beer usually us - far less hops....rated as a Caledonian beer it’s better than most of the beers they produce but overall rather average
