Cask: Special - Wetherspoons Real Ale Festival October 2013.
Jaime Schier has travelled to Banks’s Brewery, in the West Midlands, to re-create a version of this beer for this Wetherspoon real-ale festival. This is a copper-coloured beer with a floral, hoppy aroma and a hoppy flavour, balanced by a malty sweetness, leading to a refreshing, bitter finish.
Hops used: Apollo, Cascade

Cask-conditioned at the Commercial Rooms (JDW), Bristol, October 2013. Copper with a slight, off-white head. Malty character, with some heavy orange oils, some floral hops and a lengthy, bitter finish. Fine.

Cask at the Monk’s Retreat, Reading. Pours light orange with a moderate frothy white head and a light fizz. Light pine and grapefruit up front with sweet caramel and marmalade behind; finishes on a spicy tingle. Pleasant enough IPA but hardly a world-beater.

Crosse Keys Spoons. Cask. Light haze on this gold beer , small white head. Light semi dry palate with fine carbonation. Light anx clean malt base supports really good tropical fruit hops. There is also touches of pine and grass. Smooth finish with a medium bitter linger. This and the Stone were the only US collabs that retained their US character to me.

Aroma of sweet fruity malts, some mellow tropical fruits
Taste of sweet fruity malts, soft tropical fruits, light zest, bit of orange, some light caramel
Palate - Medium body, quite oily, fairly sweet finish, some lingering bitter hop and a bit zesty
Overall - Not a wow US collab but better than some of the others, quite easy going for the abv

Cask at William Stead JDW Darlington. Orangey amber colour, foam white head leaving some lacing and aroma of floral tropical fruits. Taste is malt caramel balanced with mango tropical fruit and orange, grapefruit bitterness. Slightly oily mouthfeel, medium bodied, soft carbonation, dry bitter finish. Very drinkable IPA.

Cask at the Victoria Station Spoons - London. Pours clear, deep gold with a lingering white cream crown. The aroma has some orangey citrus, some herbal tones, bread. Light to medium sweetfl flavor with bready malts, orange, grass, tangerine. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Dry orange rind bitterness to finish, some marmalade, dry bread, grass. So so.

Cask at the Willow Walk, 16/10/13. Clear golden with a thin off white covering. Nose is toasted malts, citrus, light pine, bitter orange, grass. Taste comprises grapefruit, orange pith, lemon rind, caramel malt. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, subtle hop bitterness at the close. Decent enough cask IPA.
