The Black and roasted barley malts are fermented to dryness to provide perfectly balanced full malt flavours. Golding varieties of Kentish hops are used early and late in the boil to add a fresh clean bitterness.

Cask at the Claret, Addiscombe. It pours near black with a medium tan head. The nose is roasted malt, toast, salted caramel and cocoa. The taste is roasty, toasty sugars, coffee grinds, cocoa, some underlying caramel sweetness and charred earth with a dry finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. A sold stout all-round and rather drinkable.

Cask at the Wenlock Arms, 21/02/13. Mid black with a thin bubbly tan head that retains well. Nose is a little thin, roast malt, light background hoppage, dusting of cocoa, metallic notes. Taste comprises roast malts, leather, molasses, light cocoa, sugars. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation - a little prickly, dry in the finish. Ok stout.

Pitch black, some head, but too caramel taste, too nauseating...I didn’t like it much

On tap at CP&K. Opaque black - brown beer, small tan head. Light dry palate. Sweet dark malts. Minerals and subtle fruits underneath. Coffee streak. Whisper of bubblegum toward the semi dry finish. Fresh and quite complex and eminently suppable!

Cask at The Harp, London. Very dark colour, nearly black, reddish in the highlights. Low tan head. Moderate roasty aroma, hints of coffee and dark chocolate. Soft and smooth mouthfeel. The flavour is roasty with coffee notes, medium dry. Decent enough.
