Cask. Quite much a pitch black coloured beer with beigeish brown foamy head, that leaves some lace. Aroma is roasted malts, along with some mild liquorice, fruits and berries. Flavour is roasted malts, some slight smoked wet wood, liquorice and mild berryish notes. Semidry palate.

Cask-conditioned at the Old Fountain, Old Street, London 17/12/09. Jet black with a thin but tight, off-white head. Roasty aroma with a touch of chocolate. Flavour had more of the same, plus some liquorice and long bitter finish. Great drinking.

Cask at Merton Summer Beer and Cider Festival, Merton, Oxon 18-07-09 Pours almost black in colour with a tidy beige head. Aroma was coffee, there was also some cocoa powder. Nice stout, chocolate, roasty with a dryness coming through. Wish I could have had some more of this but never got back to it. A7 A4 F7 P4 Ov14 3.6

HP Cask at the Pembury Tavern, London, on 17th July 2009, during the pub’s summer festival. Very dark brown and clear with a lasting light brown head. Initial aroma brings notes of cinnamon. Exquisite roasted/toasted malt notes joined by a borderline savoury smokiness. Very slightly salty, for me another plus. The drinker is then further satisfied by a long bitter finish. Good conditioning affords a textured mouthfeel. This stout is absolutely exquisite and is definitely worth seeking out!

Cask handpull at The Evening Star, Brighton. Very good dry stout. Very drinkable, lots of fruit as well as dry dark roasted malts. Good dryness, charcoal, touch of hop on the finish. I really like it. I’m not much of a dark beer drinker, but this was extremely good I thought. Good carbonation and the dark fruits really make it. What an Irish dry stout should be I guess. Very likeable beer.

Dark brown color; no head. Very nice aroma of caramel, then some chocolate, hops. It has chocolate and roasted malt flavor, medium body, more common than the aroma. Correct final bitterness, with some roasted malt dominance.

(Cask at Akkurat, Stockholm, 22 Jan 2009) Very dark, almost black colour with frothy, pale brown head. Malty, roasted, slightly smoky nose with notes of coffee, cocoa and dark fruit. Roasted, malty taste with coffee, dark fruit and hints of smoke. Really dry. Fairly thin body. In short: roasted coffee and cocoa with a puff of smoke.
