Special for the Wetherspoons Autumn 2014 International Real Ale Festival.

Walt and Luke Dickinson have travelled to Batemans Brewery, in Lincolnshire, to brew this beer especially for this Wetherspoon real-ale festival – their second time over here to brew for us. This golden beer is brewed in the style of a classic west coast double IPA, with huge amounts of hops giving strong, citrus and tropical fruit aromas, leading to a big, deep flavour, with a moderate bitterness and dry finish on the palate.

Cask handpull Hertford Spoons. Clear dark amber colour lasting off white head. Extremely hoppy beer for a British cask conditioned beer. settles down a bit. Some pine radox shower fresh thing going on. Big piney hoppy aroma. Some sweetness in the mouth. Not hugely bitter on the finish but definitely hoppy. Some sweet alcohol but not hot. Ok but too much like a bubble bath product

Cask at the Old Manor (JDW), Bracknell. Golden amber with a thin white head; mellow citrus aroma, not the in-your-face West Coast style, but not bad; soft mandarin orange taste with a syrupy body, some warmth and a growing gentle bitterness; and a warming and satisfying finish. But I was expecting much more.

Cask at Willow Walk. It pours deep amber with minimal head. The nose is earth, resin, pine, oily, fruit cake, toffee and wood. The taste is raw bitterness, syrupy, boozy, resinous, wood, oily orange, leather and varnish with a bitter, earthy finish. Med+ body, low carbonation and oily mouth-feel. A bit oily and rough around the edges. Too much. I’m sure this would be better on keg....

Cask at William Jolle (W’Spoons), Northwood Hills. A golden/amber coloured pour with a medium white head on top. Hoppy, malty, fruity aroma. Tastes hoppy, malty, tropical fruit, bitter/sweet. Rather unbalanced.

Cask at the Square Peg; clear amber pour with a creamy magnolia head, caramel sweet and jam aroma, taste has pine along with quite offensive sweet caramel, sticky mouthfeel, this half cost me £1.20.

Cask @ Stick or Twist, Leeds. Deeper golden colour with a creamy head. Has a soured tropical fruit nose and taste that lingers and its strength is noticeable.
