Bottle. Beer Central, Sheffield. Dark, cola brown. Film of dense, tan head. Nose has Seville orange. Citrus pith. Soft, dark roast. Some barrel booziness. Like the base beer, this is more like a black IPA to me. Taste has an initial sweetness. Turns roast bitter, with some yeast action. Decent body. Fairly silky. Light bitter finish, with a yeasty, woody thing on the close. Tasty and easy drinking.

Bottle split at Bespin Base, W2, from ABM, 10/06/15. Dark mahogany brown with a decent beige covering. Nose is liquorice, toffee, menthol notes, dark fruit peel, toasted brown sugar, light wood and a trace of booze. Taste comprises dark fruit shreds, subtle bourbon, herbal elements, light spice, toffee, prunes, dates, black pepper. Medium + body, fine carbonation, semi drying close with just a pinch of booze boost. Decent BA dark saison but more of a one off/share - doesn’t deliver the crisp refreshment I normally crave from this style.

Bottle shared in London - thanks to Colin. Pours deep brown with a dense, frothy tan head. The nose has some roast, licorice, burnt earth. Medium sweet flavor with some bitter chocolate, oily burnt pine, dark fruits, scorched herbs. Medium to full bodied, oily and chewy, with fine carbonation. Lightly warming finish with oily hops, orange rind, bitter dark chocolate. Interesting beer.

Opaque dark brown - black beer, small tan head. Palate is airy and semi dry. Modest fine carbonation. Mellow dark malts, trace of chocolate. The orange from the base beer is still coming through well. Modest fruity bourbon. Light finish. The barrelling has not overwhelmed the base beer, Tasty and drinkable.

Bottle from Cotteridge Wines; dark opaque brown pour with a creamy tan head, aroma had sharp citrus and roast malts, taste has fresh oranges, chocolate, bourbon comes through but not overwhelming, some roast a hint of yeast, very good.
