330ml bottle from Beermerchants
Bottled FEB 15, BBE FEB 20 - Pours pitch black with a smooth brown head. Aroma of whisky, sherry, roasty malts, hints of oak, wood, coffee, milk chocolates and very mild vegetable notes. Taste is smooth, roasty and oaky with some whisky, hints of sherry, oak, wood and coffee beans. Finish is oaky and very dry with some roastiness, vinous notes, hints of coffee, milk and whisky. Interesting. Not your typical barrel aged stout.

33 cl bottle @ tiong. Batch 0100a, bottled 02/2015, BBE 02/2020
Aroma has coffee, some jalopeno-vegetable tones typical to coffee beers and fondants. Flavour has slightly harsh bitterness with ash, cold coffee, mild jalopeno tones and mocha. Also some salty licorice. Rather dry stuff.

Bottle picked up at Cotteridge Wines, Birmingham, consumed at home Friday 26th June 2015 A big beer, black as the ace of spades with a dark brown head atop which soon disappeared. Interestingly I didn?t realise it was barrel aged until I started supping it, it wasn?t overly prominent on the nose and even in the mouth it wasn’t too pushy. Lots of chocolate and dark fruit combine well, the barrel ageing flavours now showing as they leak into the mix. I probably didn’t really need this after an Orval, Fyne Nice White IPA, Buxton Wild Boar, Runaway IPA, Buxton Yellow Belly (shared with Loz) and a St Bernadus 12 (crikey I went for it, didn’t I) but I enjoyed it all the same. Opaque black - brown beer, tidy tan head. Palate is airy and smooth, modest fine carbonation. Smooth dark malts laden with coffee that runs the gamut from cappuccino to earthy espresso. Modest dark chocolate. Mild whiskey soaked dark fruits. A little sweeter malt cream and earthy spice before a light semi dry finish. Nicely joined up. Very drinkable.

Bottle shared at Leighton’s gaff. Pciked up from beermerchants.com Opaque black, coloured pour with a big mid tan head. Aroma is mellow oak, sweet oak, vanilla, faint booze, mellow roast with a slight berry fruit ester. Flavour is berry choc, black forest gateau, vanilla oak, mellow choccy roasted malts. Slight coconut. Nice layers of complexity without being in your face. Palate is velvety, medium full, moderate carbonation, smooth. Really good stuff.

Bottle split at LKS high up in the airspace, thanks to Fergus, 27/05/15. Extremely dark mahogany brown topped with a decent tan swirl. Nose is well endowed with coffee grinds, chocolate, spice, toffee fudge, light roast, subtle barell. Taste comprises milk chocolate, coffee, tirimasu, sweet licks, sticky toffee, fruit cake, light whisky chaser. Medium + bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Solid BA impy, pretty subtle on the barell, good sweet and spice balance.

Bottle shared in London - big thanks to Fergus. Pours deep black with a creamy beige head. Lots of scorched malts on the nose, some tangy dark fruits, cocoa, burnt wood. Medium sweet flavor with rich dark malt character, some licorice, raisins, roast, cocoa, other dark berries, some ash. Medium to full bodied, lightly chewy, with fine carbonation. Lightly warming on the finish with notes of charcoal, baking cocoa, dark fruits, tangy wood. Solid on all fronts.

Bottle thanks to Fergus. It pours black with a small light tan head. The nose is smooth, rich chocolate, soft whisky, fruity cake, vanilla, honeycomb, fruit cake, Eccles cake, vimto and treacle. The taste is smooth, rich roast, plenty of dark fruits, vimto, charred wood, berry, touch of dark malt tang, whisky and some alcohol warmth with a dry finish. Medium-full body and fine carbonation. Rather fruity stuff. Decent.

Bottle from Cotteridge Wines; dark brown opaque pour with a creamy mocha head, aroma has rich milk chocolate, some peat and dark roast, taste has big roast malts, bold chocolate, assertive whisky tones, hint of smoke, ABV is present but not harsh, mouthfeel is inviting creamy, very good BA’ing does work sometimes.
