Hazy amber - brown beer, tidy cream colour head. Palate is light, dry and has fine minerally crispness. Watery malts. A damp musty something. Touches of esters and berry fruits. Airy finish. Quite hollow but inoffensive.

Bottle shared during the Sipper’s leaving do. Big thanks to the man himself for tracing down this rare brown ale. Pours clear caramel-brown with a creamy white head. Bready malts in the nose with accents of grain and dried out berries. Medium sweet flavor with more bread and berries, toasted grains. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Moderately sweet in the finale, with simple bready malt character and little else. Ho hum.

Bottle split at Jack The Sipper leaves for the FBI again tasting, thanks to our very own sipper, 14/07/15. Lightly hazed amber orange topped with moderate off white spotting. Nose is bread, light toffee, biscuit, spice, straw, earthy notes. Taste comprises mellow fruits, biscuit crumble, light spice, dark fruit notes. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Ok if a touch thin.

Bottle shared at craft beer co JackL leaving drinks. Thanks to JackL for this one. Aroma is mineral, nutty, woody, barrel, dishwater. Orange reddy brown coloured pour with a fine cream halo of head. Flavor is composed of nutty malts. Mineral, Berry. Little wood and spicy rye grains. Palate is light. Little thin, moderate carbonation. Not a huge fan.

Bottle from Deeside Drinks Emporium. It pours hazy deep brown with a decent beige head. The nose is pretty earthy, oak, leather, toffee, cocoa, with more subtle dried fruits and berry. The taste is unsurprisingly woody, dry, leather, decent bitterness, earthy, light vanilla, tannin, dull dried berry, date, prune, fig, light vinous aspect and some spice. Medium body and fine carbonation. Good depth of flavours and rather. Rather good stuff.

500ml bottle thanks to Ashton McCobb. Pours amber brown with a light haze and a thick off-white head. Aromas of light chocolate, vanilla, oak, stewed fruit. Taste brings a tea note and light yeast spice. Thin texture, but plenty going on flavour-wise.

Bottle from The Beerhive. Hazy brown body with a medium off-white head. Light lacing. Mild aroma of stewed tea, apricot and wood. Flavour of earth, dried fruit, light caramel, spice and fig. Thin body with a watery texture. Soft fizz. Subtle and nicely balanced. Each sip had me wanting more.

Bottle from Appellation Wines Comely Bank. Appearance - deep amber to black with a sort of plummy sheen. Decent head. Nose - toffee, light prunes and chocolate, wood. Taste - more stewed fruit and wood spice. Definite wood tannins. Palate - medium bodied at least. Nice thick texture, dry finish with wood tanni Overall - really complex and interesting. In taste it falls more into a Belgian Dubbel than a brown ale. I think the oaking will mean it will drink better after a few months.
