When we first brewed this Hazy Double IPA years ago we had a lot of explaining to do. A lot of people were put off by the deep haze of this beer, the soft and chewy body and the wild tropical fruit aromas from modern hops and expressive yeast. The original description even had a tongue-in-cheek declaration that we are “just kids doing kid stuff!”

Bottle. Pours quite hazy golden, small creamy white head,, nice residual and lacing. Aroma is tropical and dank, stone fruit passionfruit, grapefruit, light pot. Flavor is light sweet, medium bitter, juicy, dank, tropical stonefruit, guava and melon. Medium body, creamy mouthfeel. This is a bit bitter for my personal wheelhouse, but if you like them with a bite, this is killer. Lingering pithy bitterness. This one gets juicier and better as you have more...

Tap at Ale Arsenal. Massive dank and tropics hops, with a healthy dose of cat piss from the Simcoe. This is so tasty.

Level 42 Tasting. Fanks to Fergus for Fetching. Hazy gold beer, tidy pale cream colour head. Palate is smooth and slightly soft but still maintains decent fine carbonation. Smooth sweetish malts, a little cream. Light spicy pineapple and pine with a more generic tropical fruit vibe underneath. Smooth finish brings more hop spice. Very drinkable.

Growler shared in London - big thanks to Fergus. Pours hazy orange-gold with a frothy white head. The nose has vibrant citrusy hops, tangerine, orange. Medium sweet flavor with sturdy bready pale malts, tangerine, white grape, light oily pine, mango, mandarin orange. Medium bodied with fine to average, massaging carbonation. Great balance on the finish, some pith, light resin, pale bread, a little alcohol warmth, lots of fresh and fleshy citrus fruits. Outstanding.

Growler thanks to Fergus. Level 42. It pours cloudy gold with a thick white head. The nose is soft, fresh, juicy, pine needles, pineapple, grassy, dank, spice, light cracker and tropical fruit punch. The taste is crisp, bitter, grassy, pine needles, dank, straw, urine, mango, pineapple, tangy tangerine and touch of alcohol but not much with a lingering dry, danky finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Well - rounded and very drinkable.

Growler split at the level 42 tasting, big thanks to Fergus, 16/02/16. Hazed orange with a decent off white covering. Nose is bitter orange, straw, trace of white pepper, tangerine, pine needle. Taste comprises orange pith, pine resin, toasted bread, melon, orange wine gums, sticky tropicana. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi aggressive hop bitterness in the close. Solid DIPA ... very drinkable.

Keg at the brewery. Translucent bright golden. Orange coloured pour with a lasting sticky white head. Aroma holds mixed tropical fruits, passion fruit, sweet and juicy, candied orange. Flavour is composed of juicy tropical fruit salad, orange and passion fruit mango. Little bubble gum. Raw grains, little wheat and pinch of caramel. I think the English yeast adds a extra layer of depth. Palate is medium full, moderate carbonation, semi drying finish. Very good indeed.
