Cask at the moon under water jdw. Aroma is earthy wood and vanilla and some milk chocolate sweetness. Dark ruby red colour clear with a looseoff white head. Flavour is dull nutty cardboard malts with touch of choc roast in the finish. Relatively sweet and some mineral. Medium watery palate.

Hand-pulled pint in the lovely ’Grapes’, A Bath Ales owned pub in Oxford on 22 Nov 13. Nice dark body, leaning toward black from a dark brown base, on top a tanned crown. The aroma was spicy and malty with some dark fruit esters thrown in for good measure. Taste wise it followed the smell nicely, malty molasses giving it a semi-sweet flavour, where was my Rum though? It’s supposed to laced with it I believe. Anyway I enjoyed it and thought it more a ’Winter Warmer’ than any sort of Porter. Fairly deep and almost rich body, well made and easy to sup.

Bottle. Blackish brown beer with a big off white head. The aroma is chocolaty and roasted, and the flavour is bitter and roasted. Overall a nice dark beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Gravity Dispense at White Horse Parsons Green, Old Ale Festival - 23/11/12. Very dark mahogony brown with no head. Nose is toffee, caramel, light antiseptic, wood. Taste follows on, dark fruit, light booze, no sign of any rum! Medium bodied, very limited carbonation, smooth on the palate. Bit of a let down!

Gravity cask at The White Horse on Parsons Green, London during the 2012 Old Ale Festival. Pours clear brown with a light, tan cream head. Semi-dark malt nose, some fruits. Dark bread flavor, some toast, dark fruits. Light to medium bodied with fine carbonation. Sweet, dark malt finish, some dark sugars, faint earthy bitterness, more dark bread. It’s OK.

Gravity dispense at White Horse SW6. It pours very dark ruby with a distinct lack of head. The nose is malt vinegar, vinous, wood, dark fruit and spice. The taste is dark fruit, wood, earth, subtle vanilla, vinous, roasted malt, spice, faint vinegar and burnt plastic. Light body and low/no carbonation. Too thin. Not great....

Clear but very dark brown beer. Neutral palate. Darkish malt. Very slightly yeasty but well balanced with the subtle hops! Finishes malty, minerally and crisp. Goes down very easy.

Bottle bought at Waitrose, Northwood early last year. A black coloured pour with a small beige head on top. Malty, smokey aroma. Tastes malty, vanilla, some coffee, roasty. Really smooth and easy drinking. Probably the best beer that I’ve had from Bath.

500ml bottle. Pours near pitch black with a small head. Aroma is coffee, there is a bit of rum there too. Flavour is pretty much all coffee. There is a smoothness which I think is the vanilla.
