Bottleshare at Mr Smith’s pad. Thanks to our host. Clear deep amber - brown beer, tidy pale tan head. Palate is light, semi dry and has modest fine carbonation. Thin dark malts but pretty bitter roast. Tangy dark malts. Floral bitterness. Light semi dry finish. Bitter linger. Notably bitter, otherwise just another porter.

Bottle shared in W2 - picked up in Manchester. Pours deep town with a dense, frothy khaki head. Light roast in the nose, spicy pine, burnt herbs, earth. Light-medium sweet flavour with earthy hops, more herbal qualities, light roast, woody dryness. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Finishes with more woody dryness, some bitter earth, impressions of cocoa, dried berries. Nice beer.

Nose is earthy hop, bitter roast, toffee, fruit loaf, light spice, touch pine. Taste comprises earthy hop, bitter orange, straw, light spice, grain, faint charr. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with an earthy hoppy roasted finale. Decent porter.

Keg at Evening Star, Brighton. It pours jet black with a decent beige head. The aroma is rich roasted malts, bitter - sweet, dark fruits, plum, berries, chocolate, burnt pine, fruit cake and marzipan. The taste is crisp, bitter, quite spicy upfront, coffee grounds, roasted malt, burnt toast, light acidity, touch of alcohol and plum skin with a lingering bitter roasted finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Decent hoppy dark beer. Tastes almost like a black ipa....

Keg @ 57 Thomas Street, Manchester. Dark reddish-brown with a thin head. Has sweetened dark malts but plenty of raw grain in its taste giving it a gritty taste to compliment its crispness.
