A Dark Mild brewed with mild malt and Kentish Hops leaving a roasted aftertaste on the palate.Mild was originally known as a training beer and this bears relation to the use of the Naval phrase "Midshipman". Meaning A non commissioned officer below the rank of Lieutenant. Usually regarded as being in training to some degree. Was also known as a "Snotty". The lowest form of rank in the Royal Navy where he has authority over and responsibility for more junior ranks, yet at the same time relying on their experience and learning his trade from them.

Cask at the Crosse Keys (JDW), City of London. A deep ruby colour with a ring of cream head; aroma of demerara sugar; thin in the mouth, with a cane sugar taste and a touch of spice; then a dry finish with traces of leather, smoke and tar. A decent mild.

Cask at Wallington. It pours near black with a small beige head. The nose is earthy, toasty, light sweetness, coffee, umami, cocoa and liquorice. The taste is bitter, earth, toasty, charred, wood, ash and umami with a drying finish. Light-medium body and soft carbonation. Alright mild.

500ml bottle. Darkest brown colour with average, creamy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, beige head. Dark malty aroma with fruity notes of dark berries, a dry touch of fruit parings, cautious hints of milk chocolate. Taste is minimally sweet dark malty, hints of dark berries and milk chocolate, a tart touch of fruit acid. Round, mild, weaker and less complex as better specimen of its style.

Cask at the Crosse Key, JDW. Dark brown pour with a light, tan head. Very decent roasted malt aroma with subtle cocoa. Flavor is so so, lightly sweet, some strong charred wood, bit of wet malts, very mild bitterness of grass. Light to medium bodied with fine carbonation. Pretty dry in the finish, more roast, and there’s also a spicy note coming through. Overall the beer is slightly bland but it isn’t too bad.
