Shawn Kelso’s Category 57 comes in at 10.3% ABV and describes his brew by saying, “What battle? With an ABV bigger than both the other two beers in this box combined, I think it’s clear which beer came to party. I brewed this hop forward Double IPA using Galaxy and Calypso hops to give it a bright fruity flavor with notes of pear and apple. This hop laden masterpiece is definitely the beer you and your friends will be fighting over. Hope you enjoy drinking it as much as I enjoyed brewing it!”

Level 42 Bottleshare. Thanks to Big Dave. Almost clear gold beer, tidy cream colour head. Palate is smooth, semi dry and has decent fine carbonation. Clean pale malts. Good hop spice.Little orange peel. Mild tropical fruits - but bright. Spicy finish, spice lingers on. Decent.

12 ounce bottle from the Brewer’s Battle 12 pack. Pours a bright orange color with a small white head after a bit. A big sugary resin nose with some caramel. Big sweet caramel, lots of heat, bitterness, tropical sticky resinous hops. Quite nice. Reminds me a bit of a hoppy barley wine the malt bill is so big, lots of sugars left in this one. The hops are very bitter and aggressive and that suits me, the whole avoidance of bitterness in IPAs these days is fine, but I enjoy these too.

Bottle thanks to Dirty Dave. It pours clear golden - amber with a small white head. The aroma is fresh, sweet, pine needles, orange muffin, cereal, caramel, toffee and sticky cake. The taste is sweet, sticky, pine needles, resin, toffee, caramel, alcohol heat, honey cake and peppery spice with a warming finish. Medium+ body and moderate carbonation. A touch sweet and hot. Fair.

Bottle shared in London - many thanks to Dave-O. Pours clear gold with a frothy, white head. Gooey malts in the nose, ripe orange, melon, caramel. Medium sweet flavour with hearty ripe citrus, bread, citrus rind, alcohol. Medium to full bodied with fine carbonation. Warming and resinous on the finish, gooey, pretty sweet, with offsetting piney and grassy bitterness. Nice old-school DIPA.

Dirty piney hop. Old school.

Bottle split at Level 42, thanks to Wingmane and Frank, 16/08/16. Golden orange with a decent off white swirl. Nose is caramel malt, light pine needle, orange peel, toasted bread, light grapefruit. Taste comprises caramel malt, bitter orange, toasted bread, melon, grains. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Ok DIPA ... old skool malt driven affair, not juan I’d really look to revisit.

On tap at 10 barrel boise pours out a orangish golden topped with a small head. nose is great big pithy citrus hops some pine and a caramel malt sweetness. Taste is more of the big hop forward kick with a well balanced malt bill. Pretty sure this was the best of the day.

On tap at the Boise BP slightly hazy redish Amber with a nice dense blanket of light tan creamy head. I think I could smell it before she set it on the table. Big sticky resinous hop aromas and flavors. Some caramel malt character. Big IBU hit and a smooth slick feel. A big beer.
