In keeping with our authentic provenance, the Hercules Brewing Company has also created an original Belfast Pale Ale. This recipe is reflective of the beer style that would have been available in Belfast back in the mid 1800’s.

Soft delicate floral bouquet with rich caramels. Well balanced fruity front palate with a dry full bodied citrus finish and triple hopped.

Hopfig würziger, eher trockener Antrunk. Getreidig-hopfig zum Mittelteil, spritzig. Frisch fruchtig, langer Nachhall. Gut. 10/10/9/10//10

Bottle from the Vineyard, Belfast. Appearance - golden amber with a nice fluffy head. Nose - oranges and cake. Taste - more cake, dried orange and other dried fruit - maybe plums. Palate - close to medium bodied with a creamy texture and a fairly balanced finish. Overall - solid. I’d say this was a fruity Bitter rather than an Irish Ale.

Bottleshare at Chez Smith. Thanks to Fergus. Light haze on this gold beer, thin pale cream colour head. Thin sweetish malts, a little grain showing. Tangy citrus and a trace of spice. Light dry finish. Okay.

Bottle shared in London - thanks to Fergus. Pours clear, deep gold with a creamy topping. The aroma holds dried grains, vague citrus peel, leaves. Light sweet flavour with crispy leaves, hay, dried bread, more nearly. Light bodied with average carbonation. Lightly drying finish, more leaves, crispy and little toasted grains. A little bland. So so.

Bottle at the LKS Welfare pad. It pours clear amber with a small while the head. The aroma is soft, sweet, sticky, oily, sugary, resin, wood and toasty action. The taste is earthy, wood, leather, spicy, chewy, wood, toffee, cacao and chewy malt with a drying finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Fair overall. A bit fooken dry mind you.

Bottle from Tesco, Enniskillen [120516]
Dark amber, hazy, frothy white head
Aroma of toffee malts, soft citrus fruits
Taste of toffee malts, some bitter hops, very soft citrus, sugary toffee like Werther’s Originals
Palate - Medium carb can body, heavy sweet, quite rich. Finish of lingering toffee caramel, then a bit dry bitter at the end
Overall - Too much toffee, not a pale ale. No brewing errors but the recipe needs improvement
