Big Eagle IPA is big in body & bold in flavour. Generous amounts of four American hop varieties are set against a sweet, four-malt backbone.
Whilst some beers mature like fine wines, Big Eagle IPA deserves to be savoured young at the peak of it's hop fresh character. Open, inhale, drink.
This version was retired in 2017, but returned in 2020 with higher ABV, before returning to 6.4% circa 2021

Amber colour, mediumsized white head. Aroma is floral, caramelly and some wooden and resiny tones. Flavour is caramel, some floral, mild wooden and resiny tones with some bitterness to it.

Can from Asda. Clear darkish gold with well formed off-white top. Aroma of orange, pale malts, pine resin, slight earthiness. Taste follows expected path but with a decent freshness to it, quite sweet but has that resinous finish. Medium bodied, nice soft to fine carbonation, and a semi drying finish.

440ml can. Poured a hazy medium to light amber colour with a mostly lasting frothy white head. The aroma is grainy malt, light toffee, woody hops. The flavour is over moderate bitter, with a crisp, fresh, earthy, herbal, light toffee, light pepper spice, big woody hop bitter palate and a long bitter finish. Medium bodied with average carbonation.

Can online from Elusive. Pours unclear amber dark gold with beige foam. Aroma: tangy citrus, caramel, grapefruit, lemon grapefruit, pine needle. Taste: light to moderate sweet & moderate bitter, dry, grapefruit, resin, pine needles. Medium body with soft carbonation. Tidy old school WCIPA.

Can from Asda online delivery. It pours clear golden - amber with a decent white head. The aroma is bitter - sweet, sappy, resin, some tangy citrus, grapefruit, lemon curd, pine needles and a touch of caramel. The taste is pleasingly dry and bitter, sappy, resin, pine needles, green tinge, leafy, pithy, zesty, grapefruit rind, pomelo, tangerine, peppery spice and a nip of booze with bitter, drying finale with good length. Medium body and average. I enjoyed this. Perhaps it's because I miss this style of beer, but thought this worked well. Moreish.

440ml can bought as part of a delivery from the brewery and drunk at home. Light to mid-gold and clear with a full but quickly dissipating off-white head. Big piney aroma, resinous with notes of marmalade and white grapefruit. Sweet, more resin in the taste, hints of apple. Grassy and slightly spicy. Bitterness nearer the finish. Mouthfeel is a little thin and flat, so not a huge letdown but a bit of disappointment. All in all very good.

Golden beer, thick white head. Smells light and of bitter hop. Flavour has light fruit, a big whack of bitter hops, grapefruit, a dash of citrus. Quite easygoing for the strength and amount of hop. A little pine in here too. Solid stuff.
