The Popol Vuh, the sacred book of the Maya, unfolds a complex web of mystery around a beverage known as xocoatl (ch-co-atle). At Southern Tier, we’re not surprised that hieroglyphs of the ancient Maya depict chocolate being poured for rulers and gods. Even through the many voyages of Columbus, the mystical bean remained nothing more than a strange currency of the native peoples. Moving through centuries, the circular journey of cacao has been realized in our brewing house, encompassing the complexity of the darkest, bitter-sweet candy together with the original frothy cold beverage of the ancient Maya to bring to you our Blackwater Series Choklat Stout. We have combined the finest ingredients to tempt your senses & renew the power & interrelation of history in every bottle.

Donkerbruin tot zwart bier met mooie bruine schuimkraag die helaas snel wegzakt. Smaak is bitter en licht zoet met iets van koffie, noten, wat rooksmaak en bittere chocolade. Heel goed.

Bottle picked up in Naples. Jet black with a large tan head. Aroma of coffee and vanilla. Flavour is dark chocolate coffee, dry malt. Spicy bitter chocolate finish.

On tap at Ballarak Magione Palermo. Once more a beer I really like that I haven't had in quite a long time. Pours black with a small slightly tan head. Aroma is dark malts, rich medium to dark roast coffee and cacao. Light vanilla. Flavours is dark malts, lots of espresso, light to medium bitterness. Cacao, vanilla are quite apparent too, but coffee is dominant. A beautiful imperial stout if one likes espresso.

12 oz. bottle, bought July 2019. Big nose of chocolate as soon as I pop the cap. Pours dark brown/black color with very little fizz, and just a tiny ring of foam around the edge. Taste has more of that deep chocolate, sticky malts. I get an impression of bourbon barrel aging, or perhaps that's the coffee, or a little extra alcohol. Also some vanilla impressions. I have no idea what to expect from the wheat of the spaghetti in the boil. Suffice to say it has some interesting spice either from wheat or a light hop load. It was a good value, too, at $3.99/bottle at Binny's.

Bottle @ Fermentoren. Pours pitch black with a medium brown head. Aromas of very fruity coffee, chilies, cocoa salmiak licorice, dark chocolate, dry woody notes. Taste is pretty fruity coffee, dark roasted notes, woody notes, slight licorice, dark chocolate, cocoa.

Bottle, thanks Raul. Aroma is great, oaty, roast, marshmallow. Taste is great, roasty but not bitter, White Russian like! Lovely.

Tap @ Borefts 2014. Black and opague. Coffee and roast in the aroma. Malty sweet roasty coffee flavor. Creamy mouthfeel. Nice and easy, but also tasty stout.
