The Popol Vuh, the sacred book of the Maya, unfolds a complex web of mystery around a beverage known as xocoatl (ch-co-atle). At Southern Tier, we’re not surprised that hieroglyphs of the ancient Maya depict chocolate being poured for rulers and gods. Even through the many voyages of Columbus, the mystical bean remained nothing more than a strange currency of the native peoples. Moving through centuries, the circular journey of cacao has been realized in our brewing house, encompassing the complexity of the darkest, bitter-sweet candy together with the original frothy cold beverage of the ancient Maya to bring to you our Blackwater Series Choklat Stout. We have combined the finest ingredients to tempt your senses & renew the power & interrelation of history in every bottle.

Bottle design and cap is nice, I like them. Smell- weak to medium, coffee, chocolate, caramel notes. Foam- small brown foam, medium thick, malty notes, dark chocolate, coffee. Appearance- black or very dark brown color, no carbonation. Nice bottle design and cap. Taste- malty, chocolate, coffee, caramel, weak sweetness, weak acidic notes, and lot more maltyness. Weak bitter aftertaste. Very malty beer, but nice.

33cl bottle at home on 19th July 2019. Poured into a Chimay chalice, it looked interesting, very dark and with a thin film of tanned bubbles on top. Coffee aroma and taste (obviously I suppose). Intense coffee aroma and taste in fact. Boozy too.

Draught @ Randolph beer -Dumbo. Opaque dark brown with small frothy tan head, coffee-oak-grappa aroma, low carbonation, medium bitter dark chocolate-grappa taste with slight sourness and coffee beans, thin body, long finish. Strong, but well covered alcohol content; interesting brew.

Small brown creamy mediumlasting head. Aroma is slightly rich, espresso, burnt caramel, lactose, chocolate, vanilla, dark malts, hay, hints of grassy chili. Taste is slightly dry and harsh roasted, burnt caramel, ashes, burnt coffee, lactose, grass, cocoa, unripe banana, bark, wood. Medium to longlasting bitterness, dry slightly harsh mouthfeel. Nice aroma...

Pours black, an inch of tan foam, great lacing.
Smells of coffee grounds, bitter chocolate, very slight sweetness.
Coffee grounds, milky chocolate, dark chocolate bitterness, some sweet notes, roasted malt, again adding to the bitterness. Spaghetti? Where?
Medium body, medium to medium light carbonation.

Draft at The Alehouse, Zurich. Pours black with a creamy tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee. Taste is roasted malt, coffee, oak, booze. Very good.

Fall bottle share - Imperial Stouts Bottle - Black with minimal head. Coffee and some earthy tobacco in teh aromas and flavors. Some bitter chocoalte and coffee in teh flavors and a woody sharp bite at the end.
