There are countless things to admire about our Leeds based friends Northern Monk. Not least, their accomplishment in weaving together the tradition of old with the progressive approach of today, always illustrated so well in their bold, hoppy pales and IPAs.
For this collaboration we wanted to celebrate exactly this, and together, we brewed a big, tropical IPA hopped with experimental Bru-1 Hops. Aromas of mango, cantaloupe and pineapple alongside a smooth, rounded mouthfeel and low bitterness.

Can at home, 24/06/18. Golden orange with a decent off white cap. Nose is caramel, toasted grains, orange pith, melon. Taste comprises sweet malts, grass, cantaloupe melon, crackers, citric tinged straw, orange pith. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with balanced hop bitterness. Ok old skool leaning IPA. This was an OK IPA for me but interesting to see some pretty high and a low score for this beer.

Pure white rocky head left flotsam on a finely carbonated hazy golden body. Citrus, hops, catpiss & garlic aroma. Medium bodied thinning to the back, smooth on the palate with a light clean finish. Light tastes of citrus, garlic, hops, lemon & mango - minimal alcohol tastes.

Can from Great Grog. Hazy golden body with flecks of sediment floating beneath a thin white head. Low carbonation. Faint lacing. Aroma of dried leaves and apricot. Flavour of orange, Lockets and pineapple. Medium body with a slick, oily texture. Soft fizz. An old-school IPA, rich and hoppy.

Can at home in Hackney - picked up at London Brewers' Market. Pours clear, honey-gold with a creamy, white head. Nice aroma, dry citrus notes, tangerine, peach, a hint of cat pee and pine. Medium sweet flavour with light piney bitterness, rindy bitterness, more peach and tangerine some dry pale malts. Medium bodied, lightly oily, with fine, massaging carbonation. Well balanced finish, some further bitter pine, orange rind, nectarine. Really solid brew.

Traces of peel and bitterness. Soft subtle melon. Whisper of tropical fruits. Smooth piney finish. Clean, smooth and well integrated. Was quite woody and not what I expect from these breweries.

Can from. WBB CJ. It pours lightly hazy yellow - pale gold with a medium bubbly white head. The aroma is rich, sweet, candied orange peel, jelly beans, apricot, cake and hearty bread. The taste is dry, good hit of bitterness, fairly sweet, sticky, candy, jelly beans, fairly spicy, orange rind, cakey malt base and some booze with a drying and spiced finish. Medium body and fine, prickly carbonation. Quite intersting with more cakey malt character than expected. Novel.
