Het Meesterstuk van 2016 is een Russian Imperial Smoked Milk Stout van 11%, gebrouwen door Jopenbrouwers Tom Provo en Cor Baan. Het is een heerlijk volmondig zwaar biertje. Enerzijds door de toevoeging van lactose, wat zorgt voor romigheid. Anderzijds door de vele complexe gebrande mouten waardoor het bier een rokerig karakter krijgt. Een vol smakend bier met aroma’s van koffie en chocolade. De bitterheid is zacht en subtiel door het gebruik van Europese hopsoorten.

Tap at NBF Delft. Black with bubbly beige head. Smoke up front, fresh coffee, lots of licorice and roasted malts, molasses, lots of dried berries, soft herbs, ham. Over medium sweet with smoky roasted bitter finish. Over medium bodied. Nice.

Bottle @ home. Opaque very dark brown to black color, full sized brown head that lasts for a decent while. Aroma is malts, lightly smoke, lightly peat and iodine. Taste malts, sweetness, a bit weird, again some smoke and iodine, ashy and a bit alcoholic. Decent body, soft to average carbonation, silky mouthfeel almost. Not my thing really. Too much peat and iodine for my liking.

On tap at Jopen Proeflokaal Waarderpolder. Black colour, beige head. Aroma of smoke, leather, earth, liquorice, candy. Flavour is sweet, Jopen candy flavour, some smoke and leather, roasted malts, liquorice, bittersweet finish. Medium bodied. Good, but I have a strong feeling I’ve had this beer before under a different name, tastes very familiar.

Tap at De Paas, Den Haag. Poured a clear dark brown with a frothy light tan head. The aroma is smoky malt, liqourice, coffee, dark chocolate. The flavour is moderate sweet with a rich alcoholic, red berry fruit palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

From tap. Pours hazy brown to black with a small tan head. Aroma is dense tarish and roasted malt. Thick malty, smoked and dark roasted. Overripe fruity. Breadish and thick malty. Dry and breadish. Tarish and overripe fruity finish.
