Aroma of sweet malt, caramel, raisins, candy sugar. Flavour is heavy sweet with a light bittersweet finish. Aroma and body are ok, unfortunately the sweetness is overwhelming and cloying. Not for me. **** 26-05-2017 Re-rated as "Gerardus Winterbier". Same annoying unbalanced sweetness.

Bottle, 8.5%. At forst, the aroma is dusty, but then all of a sudden it turns very spicy. Clear chestnut colour. Semi-stable tan head. The flavour is sweetish with a distinct cinnamon note. Some orange peel. Nutmeg. Quite spicy, and I like that.

0.3 l bottle from 'Speciaalbierpakket.nl', best before March 2021. Clear, ruby with a medium large, frothy, almost stable, beige head. Sweetish-malty, slightly fruity and a bit herbal-spicy aroma of raisins, prunes, juniper and licorice root. Gently sweet, malty, moderately bitter, quite herbal-spicy and slightly fruity taste of raisins, prunes, caramel, quite some juniper and a touch of licorice root, followed by a long, rather herbal-spicy, moderately bitter finish. Medium to full body, gently effervescent mouthfeel, average carbonation. Really interesting beer, rather unbalanced due to the overwhelming juniper flavours but quite astonishing that a conmercial brewer dares to brew such an outspoken beer for so many years.

Bottle. Brown color. Malt, cinnamon and a hint of raspberry in the aroma. Sweet and sticky, slightly perfumed flavor, with cinnamon, cardemom and raspberry juice. Not my taste.
