(Bottle) Chestnut colour with big, frothy, beige head, leaving traces of lacing. Malty, slightly vinous nose with notes of caramel, dried fruit, dates, treacle, chocolate, marzipan, vanilla, ripe dark cherries and Madeira wine. Malty taste with caramel, treacle, dates, black rye bread, chocolate, vanilla, a touch of bourbon and hints of Madeira wine in a finish with a generous earthy, herbal bitterness. More than medium body, with a certain sweetness. Rich, warming and quite well balanced. Nice one.

Bottle kindly shared by Pilsnertest. Clear brown with a beige head. Aroma is iron/blood with some dried fruit and caramel. Taste is also a bit of iron with biscuits, raisins and dark fruits. Not so memorable.

Bottle at the chriso Pre-GBBF Shindig 2013 - London. Pours lightly cloudy amber with a fine, white cream head. Meaty stuff, with lots of ripe fruits. Plenty of aggressively sugary malts. Medium to full bodied with fine carbonation. Sugary finish with lots of rotting fruits. Heavy handed. Meh.
