Draught @ Page 24 Brewery, after visiting the Louvre Lens museum. Pours a deep reddish amber, good off-white head. Inviting sweet moist fruitcake aroma. Great depth, grainy sweet, fruitcakey, some overripe grape notes.. lovely sipper this

Black edition but no swing-top bottle. Zwykly kapsel ale po uzyciu otwieracza syknelo i wystrzelilo glosniej niz by wlasnie takie zamkniecie bylo, lekka fontanna lekkie wylanie, mocno sie spienilo i gwaltownie rosla, drozdze szampanskie nie zepsuly tu tego piwa, ale wprawily lekko mnie o zaklopotanie, bo sprzatac musialem. W nagrode otrzymuje fajne slodkie owocowe piwo z winnymi posmaczkami, piekna spora piane, nawet trwala, czarwona krwista barwe jaskrawa, metne, dosc sporo osadu. tresciwe, daktyle, nieco suszonej wisni, morela nie dosuszona. Posmak na koniec lekko rozgrzewajaco alkoholowy ze srednia dawka chmielu. dobre francuskie barley wine. dodam ze alko fantastycznie ukryli...moze w tych szampanskich drozdzach. Pomysl mieli ciekawy, plus za to.

After their successful strong stout, I had to taste this French microbrewery’s barleywine as well. From tap at GIST in Brussels. Very thick, beige-ish egg-white, densely creamy, paper-lacing head, clear deep coppery mahogany-bronze robe. Aroma of dried figs, orange peel, honey, caramel sauce, dried wormwood leaf, pecan nuts, cloves, hint of soap, ‘herbes de Provençe’. Sweet onset, candied orange peel, yellow raisin and blue plum aspects, very subtle umami touch somewhere, medium carbonation, full and oily-vinous body, a tad resinous. A lovely caramelly, biscuity and pecan-nutty malt character unfolds with a slight toasty-bitterish edge to it, which becomes accentuated further by orange peel- and bitter herb-like hoppiness at the back but also by brandy-like, warming alcohol, which nevertheless remains soothing and pleasant rather than becoming obnoxious. Kind of a ‘compromis’, as the French (and Belgians) say: too hop bitter to fit in the original English barleywine idiom and not hoppy enough for an American style barleywine (which is what it is intended like, though admittedly e.g. Sierra Nevada’s Bigfoot is not that far away in general profile). Nice, technically flawless and very enjoyable, well done again.

Bpttle. Amber color. Grassy citric hops abd dried fruit in the aroma and flavor. Hint of licorice, Very tasty, slightly alcoholic beer.

Avec son Imperial Stout, ce Barley Wine est la bière la plus aboutie de la brasserie Page 24. L'imperial stout a tout de même une petite longueur d'avance, car si ce Barley Wine est agréable et appréciable, il est marqué par un petit déséquilibre avec un alcool, à 10,9% qui se démarque de trop, conférant un caractère certain mais en dissonance avec l'esprit d'un Barley Wine (l'alcool s'apparentant davantage à un alcool de quadruple). L'amertume à 60 d'IBU, est également bien poussé pour un Barley Wine ce qui confère une petite fraîcheur intéressante mais qui peut déconcerter pour le style. An verre, l'ambré soutenu surmonté d'une mousse crémeuse blanc cassé d'1,5 cm est joli. Le nez, appréciable, est sur les fruits confits, le miel, de légères épices et une présence vineuse intéressante. L'attaque présente un piment relativement marqué en complément des arômes présents au nez. Si l’équilibre est très bien trouvé, l'amertume y est bien marquée conférant une bonne fraîcheur. L'alcool commence à se démarquer à compter de la deuxième bouche ne permettant pas aux autres arômes de bien s'exprimer. L'arrière bouche tout comme l'attaque est sur une amertume plus marquée. l'alcool se durcit encore un peu plus au final qui lui donne des airs de quadruple. Présence en bouche et longueur sont quant à elles bien appréciables. Perfectible, mais vous passerez un bon moment.

Bottle shared with Višnja 666 and Pilot Goran at a Mega Tasting, September 9th 2017. Hazy amber with a golden tint, medium head. Malty, spicy, fruity, gluey. Sweet and lightly sugary. Strong, medium to full body. Very good, but not impressive.
