Surreal spontaneous sour ale aged in oak barrels
Spontaneously fermented in oak barrels, L'Brett d'Or's fermentation is kicked off with the help of the natural wild yeasts and bacteria residing around our coolship and native to our brewery. Since our spontaneous beers can only be brewed during the winter months, individual releases involve blending unique barrels to bring out the best of each brewing season. Characterized by funky citrus aromas, a crisp acidic bite, and a complex finish, L'Brett d'Or will continue to age with the best of them, gaining in complexity over the years.

Bottle split at Bruce’s pad, big thanks to our host with the most, 28/05/14. Hazed light golden with a moderate off white covering and associated edgework. Nose is zingy citrics, white wine rinse, peach, apricot, light pissoi, bretty floaters. Taste comprises peach melba, dried apricot skins, bretty pangs, subtle BA effect, tangy lemon rind. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a tarte peachy brett rinse. Decent.

Bottle shared in London - big thanks to Bruce. Pours mostly clear, orange-gold with a frothy, white head. Great aroma, lots of pale wood, peach, lemon. Light sweet flavor with some grass, lemon rind, a bit of rubber, soft funk. Light bodied with fine, massaging carbonation. Lightly sweet to finish, oily, with more citrus, light rubber, hints of tart lemon. Smells good but the flavor and texture don’t follow on that well.

Crisp, tart and pretty easy going.

Sample from Batch #2 at Kurtkeller 011: Crooked Stave-tastic 01 on 05/02/2014. This beer is a clear golden color with a medium white head that dissipates steadily. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of citrus, oak and brett. Medium-bodied with flavors of tart citrus, earthy yeast and brett. The finish is moderately sour with a lingering brett and citrus aftertaste. Good beer all around.

12 oz goblet draft at Crooked Stave @ The Source in Denver, Colorado. The pour is hazed golden with a well formed one inch white head. Nice lacing. The aroma is lemon citrus, funk, general sour and barnyard earthiness. The taste starts bright with the citrus lactic sour, then moves nicely into the more nuanced funk of the Brett. The Brett really dries out the finish, and is a bit ripe / sharp. The palate is medium bodied, soft carbonation and the dry Brett finish. Nice beer.
