Brambrass’ attempt at the still very young brut IPA style – still a rarity in Belgium (though a few earlier interpretations by Belgian brewers do exist) and I frankly do not expect this to change any time soon… Snow white, medium thick, mousy, quickly opening head on an initially clear, deep ‘metallic’ golden beer, misty and more straw blonde with sediment added. Aroma of withering grass, frying white onions in olive oil, something sulfuric (freshly struck match), drying white bread, old cheese rind, wormwood, dried out grapefruit peel, bitterroot, potato peel. Dry onset, unripe banana and dried apple peel accents, medium carb with minerally effects; smooth cereally malt profile, indeed very dry, a bit powdery when a very firm hop bitterness sets in, quinine- and wormwood-like with an aspect of grapefruit peel, further accentuating this beer’s bone dry ending – but, contrary to what I am used to from brut IPAs, lacking in retronasal citrusy or otherwise fruity aromatics. Brut IPA the new Belgian way, one could argue, but I think the sheer hop bitterness here is a bit too much for such a dry and pale beer to carry – this would improve a lot with a more expressively aromatic and less harshly bitter hop profile, I think. Then again, I probably had this one at a much too advanced age as well, so my rating here probably isn't the most representative one.

330ml bottle from Biere Palais. Pours a milky misty golden orange, small foamy white head. Aroma presents lemon-lined fruity malt. Taste is crisp, a touch zingy, lemon peel, citrus zest, farmyard funk, wild nods, crispy bitterness. Interesting brut.

Bottle. Hazy pale yellow colour, white head. Lots of hops in the nose, lots of citrus, some pine. Taste is dry, grassy with hoppy notes, light tartness, bitter finish. Good and refreshing.

33cl bottle; BB 21st Feb 2021. Drank in De Bierboom, Brugge on 4th July 2019. Pale blonde with a mini-haze, white crown. Citrus lead to the aroma and taste, floral aspects too, on pouring the sediment into the glass it turns a little strange and semi-sour almost, struggled to finish the whole bottle.

27 April 2019. At Zythos Bierfestival. Deputy Taster: Anke. Cheers to Ama Deke, Erwin, John & Meeki! Hazy yellow, lasting, small, frothy, off-white head. Aroma of unripe mandarin, lime, lemon zest, yeast, white pepper, yellow apple, mellow lemon. Taste is light to medium fruity sweet, ripe apple & mandarin, wheaty & lemony sour undercurrent, quite yeasty into a firm medium hoppy bitterness with grass, pepper & grapefruit peel, which stays well into the finish, where yeast lingers in the back too. Medium body, slick texture, fizzy carbonation. Just a tad too dry, actually, and too few other aromatics to make up for that.

Hazy pale blond colour with lasting head. Aroma and flavour have a lot of floral and noble hop notes. Very flavoursome for the low alcohol.

12/IV/19 - 33cl bottle from Bierhalle Deconinck (Vichte), shared @ home, BB: 21/II/21 - (2019-460)

Clear pale yellow to light beige beer, small creamy irregular white head, pretty stable, adhesive, leaving some lacing in the glass. Aroma: nice citrus up front, then some tropical fruits, then grains, cow fodder, something sourish, almost infected? MF: lively carbon, medium body. Taste: bit malty, citrus, grains, cow fodder, super bitter, hay, bit grassy, fruity touch. Aftertaste: super bitter, grapefruit, little malty, bit metallic, chemical bitterness, rather unpleasant.
