Blanche avec zestes de Clémentine fraîche. Cloudy straw-colored beer with a fine white top. It reveals spicy, floral, and clementine (duh!) aromas, sparkling nicely and velvety. As we were setting up our project we had sessions at 8 PM after our working days. We created Clémentine, a light white beer with original clementine peel, fit for relaxation and fresh enough to keep our minds clear.

Tap at tto at beerlovers bar. Pours unclear yellow. Small white head. Smell is wheat, zesty, some coriander. Very citrussy, lemon like. Taste is full, sharp, rather bitter. Weirdly aromatic. Reminding of cleaning products ( not the chemical side, more li'e the 'fresh aroma' they put in there / pot pourri. Acceptable, sure. Unique yes. But not my thing. Médium thin body, rather high Carbo.

Bottle picked up from Dranken Geers, Oostakker nr Ghent, Belgium consumed sat outside Frank at Campsite nr Bad Abbach, nr Regensburg Friday 2nd August 2019. Pours dark gold with a white head, fruity with a nice softness, a little citrussy but not too streaky. This is not bad, in fact it is better than that it's very nice.

Atrium's interpretation of a Belgian style wheat beer, bottle from Etre Gourmet. Regularly shaped, dense and quite creamy (wheat-enhanced), egg-white, thick and stable head, lightly hazy apricot-golden robe with strings of fine but lively sparkling, vague champagne-coloured tinge; yellowish and more 'milky' with sediment, effectively looking like a classic witbier. Aroma of spoiled potato mash, some clear and (to me) disturbing DMS (overcooked, sulfuric Brussels sprouts), banana, white bread slices, soapy-spicy coriander seed, wet straw, halfripe pear, minerals, raw kale, dried out garden weeds, dried apple peel but relatively little of the promised mandarin and lemon zest - unless in a dull, rather 'unfresh' kind of way (contrary to what my esteemed colleague below found, I can only assume he had this beer fresher than me). Fruity, spritzy onset, banana mingled with pear and some green apple (Granny Smith), vividly carbonated in a fizzy, but not harshly stinging way; slick wheat soapiness makes up most of the middle part, with that basic, vague grainy sourishness which in this case is also partially due to the oatmeals, the velvety effect of which clashes a bit with the prickling carbonation. White bread and grainy aspects lead to a floral, gently spicy finish, with a faint dash of the citrus zest echoing in the distance - and muted by much more pronounced soapy coriander seed. Light and frivolous bitterishness in the end, as is custom in the style - 'witbieren' date back centuries and are traditionally not very hoppy, of course. In combination with the coriander and dry but - in this case - rather weak citrus peel, this makes, in all, for a very classically conceived Belgian 'blanche' indeed - the kind of more 'artisanal' witbier that provided a decent alternative back in the day when the archetypical Hoegaarden fell into Interbrew's clutches. I have nothing against that even if witbier will never be my preferred style and managed to enjoy this one more or less, too bad for the DMS though, probably the off-flavour I hate most in any beer. Apart from that, with these guys' excellent red IPA in mind, I also have to add that I expected more from this one...

Bouteille 33cl, BB12/2019.

33cl bottle from Malting Pot bottle shop in Brussels. F: thin, white, quick gone. C: pale gold, hazy. A: malty, wheat, banana, fruity, bit yeasty. T: light malty, backbone, wheat, a lot of banana, bubblegum, coriander, vaguely fruity, yeasty touch, medium body and surprisingly low carbonation for the style, not bad for the beginning brewery.
